Owner description: Rutherford House Provincial Historic Site was the home of the first Premier of Alberta, Alexander Cameron Rutherford. In 1911, A.C. Rutherford, his wife Mattie and their family moved into this beautiful brick mansion near the university campus. The family entertained friends, relatives and influential Edmontonians for more than a generation. Today, this restored and furnished Edwardian-era home maintains the Rutherford tradition of hospitality and offers visitors a glimpse into the past with costumed interpreters, guided tours and special events.

“One of Edmonton's gems - a must see historic tour and restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2012

Having moved to Edmonton two years ago, I can honestly say that visiting the Rutherford House, which we do increasingly often, was an incredible experience and is the first thing we recommend to friends about the city. If you can, take the time to come out for the tour and give the tour guide a full hour or more to tell you about the lives of the Rutherfords, who were very interesting people, and about their time, which will teach you a great deal about the City of Edmonton's early past. I really can't speak highly enough about the place - even the gift shop is a lovely place, and I normally find gift shops garrish and to be avoided.

Oh, and the food! The scones, which come out hot, are incredible. The house blend is a bane to the soul of any tea fanatic. The place is very peaceful, even when it's full.

If you've been feeling harried, I highly recommend spending some time here.

“Perfect Afternoon Tea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2012

This is probably the best (and perhaps one of very few) chances to have a traditional afternoon tea in Edmonton. The setting is vintage and warm, inviting, and the menu is traditional with home-baked goods and great scones. The tea blends are also fresh. Service might be slow, but you would not want to be in a rush here - the atmosphere is so inviting that it's difficulty to leave.

Excellent place to spend an afternoon, enjoying afternoon tea at a great price and touring a part of Edmonton's settlement history.
