I'm going to break this hotel down as best as I can because I wish I had read an honest and good review before booking our stay here.
Some quick backdrop, I was travelling across the country with my wife, from Montreal all the way to Vancouver. We had booked a lot of lower end hotels/motels along the way including Howard Johnson's, Super 8, and so on, so we didn't have high expectations or anything like that. We also found a Teambuy coupon for this hotel for $50, so the price was way under budget for us and we were happy to save the money.
Now, on to the hotel. I'll start with the positives. The price was obviously very cheap, and even without any coupons I believe is still reasonably low. We stayed in a room on the 7th floor, which if my understanding is correct, is the only floor that has fully been renovated. The rooms were surprisingly not so bad, not great, but not bad for what you're paying (I would caution however that from previous reviews, it would seem that rooms on other floors are not up to par). The people at the front desk were nice, and overall we did not have any major issues.
Now, on to the negatives and why I'm rating this hotel a 1/5. This hotel is located in what I have to say is one of the sketchiest areas I've ever been to. The hotel is not really located in the greatest area of Edmonton to begin with, but to make matters worse, it is crammed into this tiny little area with an incredibly dark and just creepy parkade across form it, which is where you will be parking your car. Right at the entrance of the hotel is a big dumpster with random people combing through it. On top of this, there is also a bar attached to the hotel which attracts even more of a sketchy crowd. The only issue with the actual rooms was the lack of any air conditioning unit, which depending on the time of year, could be a pretty major issue.
I don't mean to come off overly negative as all in all we really didn't end up having any issues and the room itself was fine. However, the area is just far too sketchy, and saving $20-$30 is not worth the hassle and worry, especially if you have a car and must park in the parkade.
