“Charming and Friendly”
Reviewed February 21, 2014

We stayed here for ten days. Tis is technically a B & B with a very nice French restaurant downstairs. There are eight themed suites upstairs all individually decorated in an eclectic combination of tasteful antiques from various periods ranging from turn of the century to the 1930's and newer.
We stayed in the Van Gogh suite which had two bedrooms, one with a sink , a separate bathroom complete with ball and claw bathtub and shower, a lounge area and small kitchenette with coffee maker, microwave and honour bar. The beds are SO comfortable.

The building is centrally located and with in easy reach or major attractions like the Exhibition grounds, Rexal Pace and downtown. There is free parking across the road and the bus stops outside the hotel.

The building was built in 1912 and is registered as a Historical Site. The building does show it's age with creaking floors and somewhat interesting plumbing, but the charm and friendliness of the family that runs it, more than make up for any short-comings. There is a nice breakfast served each morning complete with fresh baked crescents and make time to eat in the in house restaurant as the food is incredible both in taste and presentation.

Overall the hotel has a very relaxed, friendly and personable feel that makes you feel instantly at home.
We will definitely make this our Edmonton base from now on!

Room Tip: Top floor rooms are quieter as you won't have any noise of creaking floors. If the hotel is full...

We tried to find a b&B in Edmonton and most were either booked or did not serve breakfast- (my personal pet peeve). My niece recommended this place and we were so happy she did. The character of the building itself is incredible! I loved our two bedroom suite. I felt like I was I an apartment in Paris! Tres chic!
Our daughter's 23 rd birthday was on the 19 th and so we booked a table at the restaurant to celebrate. My lamb chops were perfect as were my husbands and daughters meals of duck as well. Our server was lovely, discreet yet very informative. I could go on and on about the perfectness of our stay. Don't listen to the poor reviews- these people obviously have no taste ..this place is incredible!

Room Tip: We stayed in the van Gough room...lovely...

Happy with our stay here and in particular the wonderful continental breakfast served for us the next morning. The croissants were the best I've ever tasted

The building is definitely showing it's age, so those who gravitate to ultra-modern space age style accommodations might want to look elsewhere, but for those looking for something a little off the beaten path, this was a fine place to spend the night.

We lucked out when I booked this room for our trip to Edmonton for the Men's Brier final weekend!
La Boheme is a 101 year old building with plenty of character, very comfortable, clean and romantic. We stayed in the Greta Garbo room.
Connie, the owner and her daughter, Katy are so pleasant and helpful. The breakfast that Connie prepared was very good and the desert we had was the night we arrived was fantastic. Bourbon vanilla icecream in a crepe with candied pecans, carmel and chocolate drizzle and a strawberry on the side.

We returned to La Boheme after several years because we received a gift certificate.

We had the van Gogh suite, which is romantic and has lots of character. The bathroom was a bit of a problem, there are no surfaces or counters to put anything!

We had a very enjoyable dinner which was well-prepared. The service was very pleasant and efficient. The young lady knew very little about wine but she tried very hard to accommodate us picky pseudo-connoisseurs. Then she also deserves credit for helping us when we had trouble with the stereo in our room.

The breakfast is "continental", i.e. croissants, juice, and some fresh fruit. No hot dishes.

The total cost for the dinner and room, including $70 for the wine was between $250 and $300.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so if you have lots of luggage or if you have trouble with stairs ask fir a ro...

The room was 2-bedroom, living room, 4-pc bathroom & kitchenette. It was important for me to have a kitchenette because I was taking a course and wanted to make my lunch for each day and prepare a thermos of coffee to take also. I asked for a cereal bowl and other items to complete the usefulness of the kitchen and was given them quickly & easily. It was nice to have a choice of whichever bedroom to sleep in. They give you a key to the front door to leave & lock up in the morning, because it's also a restaurant and nobody was around in the mornings. It has a TV and radio and they will give you the passcode to use the wireless internet available for your laptop.
CONS: Not enough hangars for one person, let alone a family.
NOTE: It's a walk-up to the 2nd or 3rd floor suites.

We stayed for the "Great Escape" package for our anniversary.

It was was a very enjoyable evening. A lovely 5 course French meal, and a decent wine menu. Wine and cheese was waiting for us back in the room.

We had a great conversation with the owner during Dinner, who was very pleasant. I would have to say he was the best part of the experience. He made us feel very welcome. He mentioned that over half of his customers are local. This is a bit of a shame, since it would be fantastic accomodations for visitors to the city.

My only criticism is the appearance of the hotel. There are a few areas that could use repair (ie, plaster ceiling), but it actually manages to add charm. Just don't expect a 5 star Fairmont hotel, and you won't be dissapointed.
