After a lapse of many years my wife and I have resumed attending performances of the Edmonton Symphony on a regular basis. Part of the reason we had discontinued attending was the repertoire the former conductor chose and his choice of guest performers which seemed to be picked because of some personal connection rather than on the basis of their artistic merit.
The current conductor is very dynamic and this season at least has made excellent selections in both the range of pieces performed and the guests who have been invited to perform.
You can get last minute tickets. We attend the Master Series on Saturday night and there are always a small number of free seats and always some folks buying their tickets at the door an hour or so before the performance.

My partner and I see 4-5 symphonies a year and they are always wonderful. The Winspear is an amazing venue for an amazing orchestra. Bill Eddins really adds a lot of fun to the proceedings and it's really great to watch him conduct a very talented group of musicians. The programs are varied and interesting and there is something for everyone every year.

If the tickets are priced right we love to catch the symphony a few times each year. Always amazing to see these shows.
