“One of the best!”

Having heard many performances in my travels. Edmonton's own ESO is a show one must visit if you are visiting the city. They have an amazing concert series at the beautiful Winspear Centre, as well as performances at Hawerlak Park during the summer. Again a must see for music lovers.

“Great performances”
Reviewed May 27, 2012

The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra is world class. They give great performances, perform a great variety of pieces, and often incorporate visual accompaniments or Broadway classics into certain shows to appeal to a wider audience. Bill Eddins is a fantastic Music Director, whose enthusiasm and excitement for music is contagious.

“Orchestra B+, Hall A+: What's Wrong Here?”
Reviewed May 13, 2012

Thank the lab, there are great amps and speakers, and a stunning hall with well-tuned wall-panels, because the orchestra, filled with good artists, is sooo small. There are 40 fewer players than I heard in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins, so it tales electronic legerdemain to inflate the sound. It works, mostly. The conductor is a singing, dancing, dramatic feature, and the guests are world-class. And the hall is superb, incredible ... words escape me. Still, some pieces simply demand more instruments, and the ESO just has to rent them at times. Brass section works so hard, and so do other parts, just to create their own wall of sound. We need 20 more pieces, maybe 30. We won't get them, audiences getting older and more pensioned than ever. We need kids and tax-payers to watch the mobile conductor and the over-worked players. And to listen. It is a fine orchestra, or the nucleus of a world-class philharmonic. Why, it just wowwed Carnegie Hall! Come on in, people, the orchestra needs you.
