“Would definitely go back for fettuccini!”
Reviewed September 27, 2012 via mobile

My 2 friends and I had supper here in a Friday night. Enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. The food came out as family style. Where one plate of each dish comes out and everyone puts helpings into their plate. Neat experience. Pricey place but its worth it!

“Vivo, Not Love at First Bite!”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

I dined here with my husband and another couple last week, August 30th. The wait service was outstanding and the decor and atmosphere are welcoming. After choosing a great Italian wine, the dining concept was explained and menu recommendations made. We chose the Caesar salad, shrimp app, pasta alfredo, risotto, roasted carrots with beets, zuchinni/squash dish and the game hen.
With one exception, I found the food pricey and uninspiring. The exception: the grilled Caesar salad. It was wonderful!
The beets were good, no carrots this night, but it didn't matter. The squash/zuchinni were bitter and not a favourite. The shrimp and the game hen were average, cooked properly but nothing special. I found the risotto salty and the pasta tasty but too oily. The presentation and execution of the meal was okay and I'm sure the ingredients were top notch, but no love had gone into creating the dishes. Perhaps an off night for the kitchen? The service made up for some of that, but I won't be rushing back.

“Delicious meal”
Reviewed August 31, 2012 via mobile

Had supper at Vivo last evening with my wife and another couple. Ordered the caesar salad, gnocchi, beef tenderloin, grilled mushrooms and beets with carrots. Everything was delicious, especially the potato gnocchi and beef tenderloin which came with a great sauce. Definitely returning again. Service was prompt and the eating is family style where you share all the dishes. Did not try dessert (had no room) but the home baked cookies sounded heavenly!

“Exceptional Food Experience”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

VIVO is an elegant new independent Italian restaurant on Lessard Road just off the new ring road in West Edmonton. VIVO is only open for supper and has good parking in a Sobey anchored strip mall. The modern black interior has subdued light with a focus on the chef table overlooking a large open red kitchen. We went for a four person birthday dinner looking for an exceptional food experience.

The simply printed menu accommodates changes for local availability and customer variety. The food courses are intended to be shared and are generally offered in two sizes / price points. The kitchen had a good variety of appetizers, pastas, and meat or fish and two desserts.

The excellent service was a blend of gentle marketing, food education and speedy table cleanup between entries. We noted the kitchen humming along smoothly with a full house on a Saturday evening.

The food was delightful and consistent with its price point.

We started with contrasting Caesar and Caprese salads (both were good but the latter was our favourite and the regular size gave us all a reasonable taste serving). Next, we shared (tapas style) regular orders of spicy risotto, gnocchi and smoked rigatoni (the shared medley was the best way for 4 to enjoy the variety). We skipped the protein main course and shared the regular order of Tiramisu (well made and yummy split anytime).

The Italian reds on the wine list start around $50 and VIVO offered a selection of wine by the glass.

VIVO provided an exceptional food only experience for about $150 for 4 including a 20% tip. My wife and I will try the chef’s table and some wine next time.
