Description: Bistro India is a newly opened Indian resturant located in downtown specializing in South Indian cuisine. We also have a large North Indian selection, which is most common in the city, and a Signature Fusion Menu with Western dishes with an Indian flare to them. We are un upscale resturant that features dining on 2 floors, parking, and live cooking and rated the best Indian restaurant in the city on Urbanspoon. Our kitchen has 2 award winning chefs who worked in 6 star Hotels in India and are capable of producing all kinds of exquisite creations and our hours are 11AM-10PM 7 days a week. We also have private rooms and our upstairs is great for private parties and we also do catering for a very affordable price. We have take-out and we will soon be delivering as well.

Our family went there for dinner based on highly favourable reviews, and also partly because I much prefer southern to northern Indian cuisine. Our selections included the paper thin dosa, one of the chicken curries, the Gaon shrimp dish, mutton briani, and the curry fish. I was somewhat disappointed with the fish - it was bland despite the curry possibly because it may have been basa filet. Recommended are the dosa, the mutton briani, and the Goan shrimp. Naan bread was just OK - a bit burned but the rice was good. As with most Indian restaurants, the servings tend to be smallish. Service was fast (there were only two other tables occupied when we first got there).
Overall, more positives than negatives.

We went to this unique restaurant in a group of 10 on a weekday for lunch. I have tasted a lot of South Indian dishes back in England and also when I was visiting India, This restaurant is the only South Indian Restaurant in the entire Western Canada I would say that reminded me of the authenticity in taste and appearance of some of the South Indian dishes we tried. Though they call themselves a South Indian restaurant, their north Indian dishes were very tasty too and quite different from the usual north Indian dishes due to the different spices they cook with. Besides the extremely friendly waiters, the owner herself explained the difference between South Indian and North Indian spices and the style of cooking which was a bonus as it is a small family business who cares about what their patrons think of their food. We were told that it is 100 years old two story home turned into a bistro like restaurant with on-site parking, so in spite of being unique, felt a bit crowded but they have a big dining area with live cooking upstairs for groups over 10. Next time we are moving upstairs.

Enjoyed an authentic south Indian lunch with my friend from Dubai. The server was excellent, so friendly and helpful. The dosa was light and crispy, the butter chicken flavorful, tender and spiced well, the sambar was so tasty, the samosas were fresh and crispy and the nan was average. Didn't realize until our server mentioned one of the items in a small bowl was sambar, first time trying it, loved it. Nice decor.

Had a lovely family dinner at Bistro India. Loved the Madras Dosas and chick pea dish (Chenna). The curries were a tad spicy but still very tasty. Our server, Brandy, was excellent. We had our (fussy) 9 mos old baby with us and she went out of her way to be helpful and accomodating. Thanks for the great service!

Celebrated with my mother, originally from S.india, who enjoyed the food immensely...a change from the westernized versions of Indian food so prevalent nowadays. Great variety of dishes, reasonable portions and prices in a charming setting
