This newer Sandman sits along with a collection of other similar chain hotels on the southern fringe of Edmonton about equal minutes from downtown and the international airport. It has all the advantages and disadvantages of similarly located franchise hotels. It is large and impersonal but quiet and comfortable in a sterile kind of way. Everyone is coming or going, no one staying long, and you feel it. The rooms are large and clean, the air conditioner starts and stops frequently but keeps the place on temperature target. The food lacks innovation and quality but portions are substantial. A lounge provides complementary coffee, snacks and newspapersThe staff mostly courteous and chatty (mostly with each other). Check in and check-out quick and professional. Fills the bill for a one night stay, although there are less expensive alternatives close-by.

We significant other and I stayed here one night. I would say a rating of 3 stars for this hotel is low, 4 stars would seem more appropriate. The room was really nice (minus the velvet pillows and chair), the bathroom was nice as well. The hotel was very clean. The pool was a little small for such a large hotel, especially when a good portion of their clientele is families. It is nice that there are two restaurants attached to the hotel, made breakfast the next morning a breeze. Location is somewhat ideal, in that it is right by two major freeways, making it easy to get around Edmonton. That being said, it is about a 20 minute drive to Whyte Ave and about 25 minutes from downtown. The hotel is located about 5 minutes from South Edmonton Common, one of the major shopping districts in Edmonton. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edmonton.

This is suppose to be a nicer hotel and at $200/night for a standard room I certainly expected some nice amenities and layout. Upon arrival, the check in process was good, but the room was certainly lacking... in all aspects. First, the room is tiny and cramped with a long hallway from the door to the bed with a TINY closet located in the hallway. There is a safe in the closet which would give you room for about 4-5 hanging items... good for a night or two, but that's it. All surfaces (namely the bathroom countertop and desk) are scratched and worn. The baseboards are significantly marked up and the tile grout in the hallway and bathroom is stained dark brown (from the original cream colour). The toilet lid doesn't go back all the way due to the poor layout of the counter top. The bathtub and caulking looks dingy and worn already despite the hotel being fairly new. There is no fridge in the room and there is no breakfast included. For the amount per night, you're better off staying at one of the hotels right beside this one which will be cheaper and offer more. Noise isolation is poor, you can hear voices and footsteps in the hallways and above quite easily.

Overall, I won't stay at this hotel again - not worth the price!

Room Tip: ask to be fairly close to the elevator...really long hallways and with no fridges in the standard rooms, you'll be going a distance to get ice which is just around the elevator...no signage to indicate the ice or pop machines either.

Stayed for 3 relaxing nights in the Jacuzzi suite. It was a freezing cold outside with horrible wind chill and our ground floor room stayed cosy and warm. The kitchen is so nice to have and well equipped. Will certainly stay again. Only negative was the pool is in an odd place right in-between the restaurants.

We stayed here during an emergency with frozen pipes at home, and I can't say enough good things about this hotel. Two things matter to us the most; hotel cleanliness and staff attitude. The staff were friendly, helpful, and seemed to genuinly care about their guests. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and interior design was pleasant and relaxed.
The area is chock-full of shopping and restaurants, good access to major highways, and with a pool, hot-tub and exercise equipment right in the hotel, there was not too much need to wander for the time we were here.
Again, staff were hard to beat. Helpful, pleasant, with a real can-do attitude. We were stuck running from a flood @ our home with the clothes on our backs, but were treated as if we pulled up in a limo wearing a tux. I loved the place. Rooms might be a tad small, but that is just looking for a complaint, as the rooms are comfortable and very clean.
I will never hesitate staying at Sandman Inns after this experience. In fact, they will be one of the first hotels we seek out when staying away from home next-time. Head-office should congratulate the Edmonton South location staff. All of them, for making one famililies' nightmare bearable, and for making many travellers comfortable. Well done Sandman Inns.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to offer their own benefits with no drawbacks. It was quiet and clean, we stayed in three different rooms and liked them all , although our kids were too big for the bunk-beds in the family room.
