Make sure you make a reservation if going on the weekend. The appetizers we had were very good but definately not something I've had before. They give you this little pepper with gazpacho in it. I wanted more!!
The staff is very nice and the chef is very adament about having fresh local produce.

Zinc, located in the Art Gallery of Alberta, is a true diamond! When we arrived we were seated promptly by a very friendly hostess. After inquiring about the exhibits at the gallery the hostess took the time to go over to the gallery and bring pamphlets and information about the artists to the table.

Our server was delightfully friendly and knowledgeable. She took note of our dietary restrictions and offered us the specials. Our drink order and bread service arrived promptly. The sous chef took the time to come out to our table and discuss the details of our dietary restrictions. She then discussed the menu with us and helped us plan our meal. The server then returned to take our order and discussed the wine paring. While Zinc does have a sommelier our server was very knowledgeable and we were able to pair our wines with her assistance. She discussed the wines in detail and after sampling a few we decided on the wines to pair with our meal.

The atmosphere and decor were very pleasing. It was comfortable while modern and keeping with the feel of the gallery. The chairs have arm rests for added comfort. The room is also nicely divided so the bar area and two seating areas are separate. This enhances the intimacy of the dining experience. The restaurant also looks out of large windows to downtown Edmonton.

As for the actual food - it was AMAZING. The flavour profiles were unique and interesting. From Lagavulin Scotch Bacon (it is cured in house) to perfectly prepared seafood and meat it was all fantastic. The sous chef took the time to create a separate amuse bouche for us as we could not eat the one they were featuring. She did this while preparing a custom menu for a table of 8 also in the restaurant.

We were very impressed and pleased with every aspect of the restaurant and very much look forward to being able to return!

Seven of us ate there on a quiet week night. Great location, well decorated and the food, when it came, was good. The problem was the length of time it took to serve us out entrees - it was ages. This would be great on a date but with six colleagues not so good. A shame as it has a lot of potential and snappier service would make it a great place.

Was able to have a sampling of some of the delicious mains by choosing a tapas size serving of anything on the menu -- mains and appetizers. Wonderful scallops for an appy, and the bison and duck were wonderful! Not a real fan of the very heavy potatoe cakes that come with the pork.
