We have been travelling to Edmonton for the past three years and have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Edmonton Downtown, the staff are friendly most accommodating and remember you. They had made us feel at home and so welcome, they are like family. The rooms are comfortble. The food for breakfast is always delicious and the staff are more than willing to help you enjoy everything they offer their guests.

Room Tip: Every room we have been in are great.

This is my third review of this property. I would definitely still recommend this property overall but I did have some concerns during my last stay. I was in town for one night so it was one of those get in late, unpack, pack the next morning and leave trips.

The hotel is not directly connected to the pedway system so if it's cold out (it was, just ask Oprah, she was in town), it can be a cold walk. However, you're only a couple of blocks away from the indoor pedway. The staff is friendly and they have a manager's reception on Wednesday evenings. It is quite easy to get to and from the airport if you have a car. Parking can get crowded but it's right next to the building if you don't have to use the overflow lot. The breakfast area is one of the best of the 15 or so different HIE properties I've visited. Another plus with this property is that it's next to the Red Arrow bus stop if you are commuting from Calgary.

However on this stay the room (817) had a tired feeling to it. Part of that was due to a large water stain on the ceiling that ran down the wall causing the wallpaper to peel. Even the baseboard trim was separating from the wall due to the water. I'm sure not every room has this but it needs repair. The wireless internet was very finicky on this stay. I always bring a cord just in case but the wireless should perform better. If you're travelling with just a tablet you may get frustrated with the wifi reliability. The HVAC system was not very responsive to changes in settings although the room did not end up getting too warm or too cold. However, I do like to have a fan on for white noise to drown out ambient sounds but I was not able to do this. Another thing that occurred to me on this stay is that the coffee maker and microwave are located in the bathroom area. This seems a little off-putting considering the amount of moisture and other things that can get in the air in the loo.

If there is some general maintenance done I will move this back up to 4 stars. Right now I would say recommended but average.

Thank you so much for the gift of your feedback, and your recommendation for our award-winning hotel. Although we are in a great downtown location with easy access to business, education, government, dining and shopping, it is a very chilly walk in below average temperatures. Our hotel provides above brand standards in both breakfast bar hours, and in our food offerings. We have many other value propositions, such as key-card security to access our guest floors, a large 24-hour business centre, lap pool, steam rooms, whirlpool & fitness room, plus balconies on 90% of our rooms. You will be pleased to hear that 2013 will bring a property improvement plan, under which we will renovate and modernize all areas of the property. We love being the hosts at your Home Away From Home, and look forward to welcoming you back very soon!"

Stayed here for 2 nights on business. Location was close to the office building and parking was available in lot next to hotel. Found front desk staff to be very friendly and courteous. Room was nice and bed was very comfortable. Would stay here again and would recommend it to others.

I stayed just one night at this Holiday Inn. Room was clean and nice, but a little dated. My room was really hot and you could not adjust the temp. They were able to provide a fan. Breakfast was very nice. Staff was excellent. We had a workshop there and the penthouse is beautiful and staff was top notch. (The only problem there was birds crashing into the windows! I closed some curtains and it stopped.)

Dear RickyMM, Thank you for your gracious comments and your recent stay with us. We are so pleased you had a great “Guest Experience” with your guestroom, meeting space and our award winning guest services. Due to Edmonton’s unseasonal temperatures, we have had our heating system on a low setting and depending on the individual some find it a bit too warm. I am pleased our staff did offer you a fan and endeavored to make your stay a comfortable one. Many thanks for saving our birds by closing the meeting room windows as this time of year, there are many downtown office buildings with the same fate for our feathered friends. We look forward to your next stay.

Staff was very friendly and helpful from the minute we walked into the hotel.
There wasn't one detail in the hotel, room or breakfast that was missed.
The extra effort from the staff made the stay wonderful. Will be staying here on next trip to Edmonton. Thanks Kent and all the staff.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Downtown for 3 weeks in November 2012 on Business. Having Travelled from Australia the warm welcome from staff was very friendly and helpfull and made you feel as if your home. One can only praise all the staff
and Management for their attention to detail. Location for business and leisure is top class. Rooms have everything you need, a king size bed as comfortable as this is a rarity in hotels. The breakfasts were incredible and no added costs.
Hope to return next year.

My company will not be booking us there in the future. It is more like a hostel.
1) Extremely run down even in business areas.
2) Unprofessional.
3) Front desk staff always busy chatting with each other.
4) Difficult to get assistance.
5) Managers don't really seem to care even though we called them to look at our room, plus address concerns - little effort and not worth the money.
