“Nice stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2013

I stayed one night, arriving late at night from the airport. Conveniently located in downtown Edmonton. Nice and professional welcome at the reception desk.
The room was clean, spacious but the lay out wasn't the best one. As the TV is on the wall with the counter and the desk on the left side of the bed, you can't watch the TV in front of you lying in the bed. You have to turn your head to the left which is not really comfy.
The room is also located in front of the ice machine, a pretty noisy machine. If you are a light-sleeper, you better call the reception and ask them to unplug the ice machine for the night, that they promptly do.
The bathroom was clean. Next time I will try to get another room.
The dinner and breakfast were tasty with a very good service each time.

The rooms are nice, but rather bland. If you like very neutral colours you will be OK. The hotel was reasonably quiet for a weekend, but the doors have a automatic closure system on them that works rather well, and you can hear other doors in the hallway closing.

The hotel has a very odd issue with water temperature. I could not get a constant temperature of water while showering, it was always changing and had to adjusted. The picture of the nice shower is true, but it is annoying to have to adjust the temperature control several times while showering. At times we had to run water at the sink for a long time to get any hot water to reach the room.

The bed was good, and the room had a reasonable desk and chair for computer use.

The room HVAC system made more noise that I would have liked. The curtains are designed to do a good job of keeping the light out if adjusted correctly.

The hotel elevators have 2 sets of buttons, but only 1 side has the slot for your room key, which needs to be inserted in order to go up to the room levels in the hotel. It seems to need some special timing since you will see the elevator door open and close several times at the lobby level before its requirements get sorted and you can get the floor you need to light up. I appreciated the security feature, but would have liked it to be easier to use.

Check your bill before you leave, as I had to get the free internet and food credits sorted out before I left.

Why the very good rating? There are not a lot of good choices in downtown Edmonton, especially when you want to have access to the pedway system on a winter break. For their room rates, they could do better

Room Tip: check out the executive rates, since they included free internet and a credit for food or drink in t...

Always a challenge getting a reservation let alone getting a decent room at this hotel. They are frequently oversold as they are the only Starwood property downtown. As such, the staff seem to feel that they do not have to try that hard to provide quality service. Staff turnover is noticeable here which says a lot to me. Gym is tired. Restaurant is nice but quite pricey for Edmonton. Better value at the MacDonald. Come on Starwood! You sold the Sheraton downtown to the Sutton Hotel chain. Time to create a quality property in the heart of this major Alberta city.

Room Tip: Just feel lucky if you actually get a room!

We stayed at the Westin in Edmonton for two nights. The staff were friendly and the rooms were huge and clean. We arrived on a Friday and asked the concierge if he could get us into Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and he got us in right away. Excellent service. Highly recommend.

My wife and I stayed one night at this hotel and would say was a good experience overall. The location downtown is quite central and easily assessible. Our room was average size, bed comfortable and the atmosphere generally relaxing. Although there was nothing particularly outstanding about the hotel in our experience during this stay, the service was noteworthy. The attendants were very pleasant and friendly and valet parking was prompt and at a reasonable cost considering the location.

In checking into a Westin or other premium hotel brand, one comes to expect a certain level of upkeep and quality of rooms and furnishings.

On a recent trip, this hotel failed on all fronts - it is hard to understand how it maintains the Westin/Starwood brand designation.

Worn and unclean carpets, hallway walls that were marked up, worn furniture all led to a much darker and dim picture than what was painted online.

One shouldn't have to check out before actually checking in (yes, it was that bad) and guests shouldn't have to wonder about standards within the Starwood system.

Room Tip: Choose another property.
