I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, unless couldn't book at another comparable hotel in Edmonton. This hotel is dated and only benefits due to its location to the City Centre.
- Free Wifi
- Breakfast included
I stayed here for one night as a result of a conference in this hotel. Service was excellent and amenities great. Everything is a little dated and worn from the room carpets to tiles in the bathroom and dirty grout to the decor. It is very clean, though. This hotel has plenty of character, but for the price, I would stay somewhere more 'modern'.
We had a very nice stay at Sutton Place, enjoying the comfortable rooms, great service and friendly staff. The breakfast was plentiful and of good quality and we also ate in the hotel's restaurant which was pricey but very good. The hotel offers access to a nearby gym, which is a five-minute walk away via an enclosed walkway. This was good value at around $5 per session. The hotel pool was also fine. The hotel is close to shops and downtown attractions like theatre, restaurants etc.
We stayed one night at the Sutton Place hotel last August after our travel agent gave us rave reviews about their breakfast. The first problem was that we were never told that the parking garage is contracted out to another company, so if there is any problem, the Sutton Place hotel doesn't do anything for the guest. We had parked and paid about $25 to do so, and got in our car to go to dinner when the garage door shut behind us and the wooden barrier was in front of us and nobody to let us out! We were held captive for over 5 minutes, which doesn't sound too long, but when you are in this situation, trust me, it feels like a LOT longer! We had no idea where to go to find the gate agent or someone to let us out, not to mention we had dinner reservations. The agent finally arrived and explained that he had gone to the bathroom and when he does, there is no one to cover for him. This is so unprofessional for a hotel like this to have guests being "imprisoned" outside the parking garage! When we returned, I complained to the manager and her only response was that it has happened to her too, but there's nothing they can do about it! Not okay in my book! The accomodations were fine, but when we went to breakfast, we were told we had to eat the lobby breakfast even though we'd paid for the restaurant buffet-and they had us going back and forth, again, not very happy about this. The worst was the food though...it was just poor quality and bad tasting! I actually spat out the pancake as it was so horrible. How can you mess up pancakes? I asked about them and they said they were homemade, however, I would never want to guess from what they were made-they just tasted bad. There was not a huge variety of food as one would expect from the price of the breakfast. I barely ate anything and the rest of my family did the same. Very disappointing end to our trip.
The very best thing about this hotel is the awesome bed! We also went swimming in the pool & whirlpool. Really nice - at the top of the hotel! The lobby and sitting areas are very comfy and it is really handy to be connected to the mall. You do not even have to walk outside!
We ate at the pub - really excellent food and service.
The only downside to this hotel is the wait staff at the 2nd level restaurant on the breakfast shift. Very unfriendly - they would rather clean tables then help the one or two guests eating a late breakfast.
The internet never did work, but I connected by remote wireless to the free internet with the city of Edmonton.
