“OK hotel in dodgey location”
Reviewed July 5, 2014

The neighborhood surrounding this hotel is pretty sketchy looking which turned us off. The parking is expensive and we were not sure what we were going to find in the morning based on the people wandering around.

The hotel itself seemed a little dated but the rooms were clean and comfortable. Ours looked into the mall which seemed a little strange.

Had breakfast at the hotel and the restaurant was quite dated and in need of a make over. The food was fine.

We stay here for business meetings and have consistently 3 times a year for the last 2 years. Let me break it down like this - rooms, food, staff and parking.
Rooms: For the most part, they are suites with a living room and bedroom. Be sure to ask for one that looks outside, otherwise you could get one that looks into the shopping mall - and no, those windows aren't completely one-way, so be careful with that bathrobe. My impression is that the rooms aren't really clean. It's like they are now so old and dated that the usual daily surface cleaning that does happen will never touch the years of living they've seen.
Food: The food is pretty good but if you are hosting an event, be picky with your menu. Otherwise it will be typical hotel carbs. The food gets one of the stars in this review.
Staff: They are friendly and helpful and I believe they genuinely want your stay to be good. They get the other star of this review.
Parking: It's a parkade. No underground (which in winter is a big deal). I did see security wandering the stalls but it's a kind of sketchy part of downtown and I always worry. The alternative is the overheight parking which has CCTV monitoring. I have used it (roof rack and topper make me way too high for the very low 6 foot 3 inch limit in the regular parkade.) The trouble is, there's very few stalls and the staff often sneak a stall because it's convenient. More than one I have asked about it being full and more than once the front desk has said wait 5 minutes, and someone runs and moves a car.
So in the end, people good. Food good. The rest? I really wish I cold stay elsewhere whenever the company chooses this location.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a view to the outside world.

This was our first time and I can really recommend this hotel. Only issue we had was with the reservation. We were 3 couples staying in 2 rooms. One of the couple had to sleep on the sofa bed which wasnt made so we called the Front Desk and they sent a housekeeper up. She was very nice & friendly. She gave us lots of amenities as she saw 2 couples are staying in 1 room, she prepared the sofa bed and chat with us. Really nice employee - Samantha from Holland :)
Overall, we will be definitely coming back and will recommend this hotel to others! Thanks

The hotel is very dated. Three of us booked a suite to attend a concert. Two of us ended up sharing a bed because no one wanted to sleep on the pullout couch. The couch seemed very dirty. The bath tub was stained. The whole place needs an overhaul.

It is always disappointing to here that a guest did not enjoy their stay. We will review this feedback internally.

One bedroom suite was very large and comfortable. Bed was great as was the sofa bed.
Hotels parking was expensive but the lot attached to it was cheap. There was a convenient entrance to this parade attached to the hotel.
The entire hotel was very clean and the staff was great.

Room Tip: Choose a suite if the size of the room is important.

Recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on business in Edmonton. If you are doing business in downtown Edmonton this is a great hotel location. Other than that the rooms are adequate and are in desperate need of being upgraded and the rest of the hotel. It is a good safe hotel with a good free buffet breakfast that also offers free internet access.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor looking out on the city away from the elevators.

I just stayed here on business for 2 nights. Had stayed here years ago and it is convenient for our Edmonton office. In one word the rooms are "tired". Have not seen a TV with a picture tube in a long time...until I went into the bedroom (there is a small LG Flatscreen TV in the sitting area...with a fuzzy picture!). Internet was the absolute worst I have experienced anywhere (not just hotels, anywhere!). Internet was totally unreliable and in fact I tried to post this review while in the room and after trying for over 45 minutes I just gave up and waited until i got back home. I had a king room and the size of the room is nice with a sitting room however furniture is older, scratched, and has seen lots of use. The closet had a total of 4 hangers, all for ladies skirts. The complimentary housecoat was worn to the point I did not even consider using it. The tub surround in the shower is older, dark, and one of my pet peeves, has a very low shower head (I am 6' tall and had to duck under the shower).

Staff were friendly, front desk efficient. I did not eat on site but was told by locals the restaurant at Sutton Place was much better and did eat there (Chops) and enjoyed it. I now travel to Edmonton on business quarterly and will be trying a different property next trip. The fact this hotel in ranked in the 50's of the 90 hotels in Edmonton is accurate based on my experience (I should have looked before I went....).
