Owner description: Whyte Avenue (also known as 82 Avenue) is an arterial road in south-central Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It became the main street of the City of Strathcona as it formed, and now runs through Old Strathcona. It was named in 1891 after Sir William Whyte, who was superintendent of the CPR's western division from 1886 to 1897 and was knighted by King George V in 1911. Old Strathcona is Edmonton's main arts and entertainment district, and is also a shopping hub for local residents and students at the nearby University of Alberta. Whyte Avenue, now a heritage area, is at the heart of this district, housing many shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

It is a nice place to walk and shop and enjoy your surroundings. A nice change from the mall

What a treat to be able to park under a huge tree on a side street just behind this main avenue. With the unusually hot weather in Edmonton this summer the trees provide welcome shade all down the street. Many interesting small stores and bigger names like Lulu Lemon make it a great place to shop. Great restaurants also abound.

Whyte ave is for the young and old. Great mix of people and shopping as well as bars and restuartants. The farmer's market is great on Saturday. It is generally a hub of activity on beautiful summer days.
