“Clean and Friendly!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2012

We have stayed at this hotel for an extended time in Edmonton and have always been pleased.
This property has been redone and all the rooms are extremely clean and fresh, with great beds.
There is a mini fridge and a nice breakfast included. The pool and hot tub are great. Wingate is located in a good location if you want to be on the west side. The staff here are very friendly.

My husband, daughter, and I stayed here on our way to Alaska, and it was our favorite place that we stayed during our 9-day road trip. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and modern. The staff was very nice, and the pool was fantastic! It was the perfect way to relax after a long day on the road. My daughter loved the slide, and was able to get rid of some pent up energy. There is a fantastic restaurant (HomeFire Grill) adjacent which delivers to the hotel.

As you approach and enter the Wingate, you notice the building and interior seem to look relatively new and are in excellent condition.

The hotel also has a large waterslide and mushroom with water coming down its side, which they consider to be their "water park." There is a jacuzzi and adjacent fitness center with more than the usual hotel equipment (bike, treadmill, elliptical, weights, and weight machine, and a scale).

The room we were staying in had two double beds, a microwave, fridge, safe with no keys (so it was basically useless), desk with chair, chaise lounge, dresser and two night stands. The lighting for the room is quite dim and lacking.

The bathroom is quite small, and you cannot close the door if you are sitting on the toilet (seems to be a poor design). We did have a problem with our tub in the bathroom, as the water did not drain out and would puddle. My daughter did have an accident in the tub, and the management handled the situation in a professional and courteous manner.

Tip: Make sure you have a bathmat in your tub, as the tub is quite slippery. For some reason, housekeeping took ours out on the second day and never replaced it.

The breakfast served is enough to get your day started: The egg patties are good and are offered with sausage. Bread and bagels are available for toasting. There are two types of danish, fruit, waffles, milk, juices, cereal, coffee and teas.

There is also the HomeFire Grill located just outside the hotel in the parking lot. The place is decorated in an aboriginal motif and is quite beautiful. The service was great and food delicious. They offer delivery to your room or you can pick it up at the To-Go window. There are other restaurants and shopping within a 10-minute walk. The West Edmonton Mall is about a 10-minute drive.

If ever I am in the area again, I would definitely stay here again.

Thank you "Florida" for choosing the Wingate Inn while visiting in Edmonton. Pleased to hear that the hotel measured up to your expectations. Very unfortunate incident concerning your daughter, trust she is OK - appreciate hearing that the matter was handled effectively. I'll be sure to share your positive comments in respect to the food and service of the Homefire Grill with both the management and staff - they really do a terrific job!!

We stayed two nights and enjoyed both. We were greeted at the front desk with a smile and an easy check in. Great pool area with a water slide and hot tub. There is a seperate work out area as well. Very spacious, clean and bright room. Very nice breakfast each morning also in a very clean enviroment. It is a close and easy drive to the West Edmonton Mall. We have stayed here before and had the same good experiance.

I don't usually stay in big hotels, and I was surprised how big it was. My usual concern about big hotels is that they are just running a business - but this one was different. I was greeted in a very friendly and helpful manner by all the staff and they were genuinely concerned that I should enjoy my stay. They helped me trolley my bags up to the 4th floor. My room was very smart, clean and good sized with fridge, room safe, coffee maker, free wi-fi. I did have a problem with my keycard not working, but this was quickly sorted. The windows were sealed for safety so I had to use the noisy A/C which I do not particularly like. Continental beakfast, with 2 or 3 hot items is included, but I stayed at the weekend and there were 3 children's sports teams staying, so breakfast time was rather busy and you had to queue. This also meant the swimming pool was bsuy and noisy, so I just relaxed in the spa pool! Guests are supposed to dry off before leaving the pool area, but the passagway and floor of the elevator were rather wet at times and slippery floors are a safety issue. I did report this to staff who quickly dried the floor, but I do not think so many childen should be in the pool without adequate adult supervision. This is obviously a very popular hotel with families and children's groups and I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere ad it was quiet at night so I had a good sleep.

i have stayed at many hotels, always searching for higher end without higher end price. I am a little critical, so I feel my review is valuable. This hotel is very clean, quiet, spacious, and affordable. I sometimes cheap out for 100$ rooms but the few extra dollars you will spend on your room truly makes your trip more enjoyable! The rooms are new, flat screen tv, clean, comfy, clean bed, very nice washroom, big room lots of seating fridge, coffee, microwave. The staff is all very friendly. The breakfast is full continental, and have seen no better elsewhere. Pool, hot tub, gym. I normally dont take time to write reviews but the people at this hotel are doing a great job and are running a great establishment. This is my second stay and no complaints, very refreshing !!! A. I have had a curiousity about this property for years as we most often stay at the Hampton Inn right next door. We decided to give it a try the third week of April and had a mixed experience.

On the plus side: Rooms are very spacious and the lighting is second to none. Two mirrors outside of the one in the bathroom which is great for when we travel with our daughter. The Hotel was quiet, the location really good and our rate was at least $30 cheaper than the Hampton Inn - nice! Housekeeping staff are friendly and accomodating despite having the most challenging job in the whole hotel. Really decent Free Breakfast with lots of places to sit provided you don't mind cleaning your own table as the gal that worked the breakfast room was unable to keep up. Fantastic Aboriginal Art which was everywhere and added nicely to the decor of the room and the rest of the hotel.

On the negative side: The beds are hard - not even remotely comfortable to the point that my arms went numb. Windows don't open and housekeeping turns off your fan during your stay so you return to a stuffy warm room ( and this was only April!). The towels are abrasive, the tap on the sink broke on our last night and the woman in the breakfast room was cranky - perhaps she needs a raise or a helper or both? Our keys had to be re-coded twice during a 4 night stay and the first time we brought it to the Front Desk's attention they put the blame on us - really???

Can I recommend this hotel - perhaps if the price is right and its winter. To be honest there is a better hotel to the west of this property that we will likely return to next time for some fresh air, some softer beds/towels and the extremely friendly customer focused service that has become the benchmark of the Hampton Inn/Hilton chain. They do Survey you at the Wingate and respond specifically to your comments on that survey but is that enough? Only time will tell...

Room Tip: They don't penalize you with less square footage when you chose a King room so, if it's just...
