Description: A Rare Steakhouse... Well Done. Century Hospitality Group has raised the steaks with LUX Steakhouse + Bar. Located in the heart of Edmonton's downtown financial district, diners at this upscale urban steakhouse enjoy a hip, refined design and a menu that would do any traditional steakhouse proud. The atmosphere is pure modern day elegance with its vibrant colours, rich fabrics, darkly stained woods and crisp solid ceilings - voted one of Edmonton's Best Designed Rooms. Much like one of Edmonton's favourites, retired Oiler Ryan Smyth, who's an owner at LUX, the kitchen team brings his work ethic and their passion for excellence each and every night. Whether it's the 'Lap of LUXury', the over sized Heritage Angus Beef Tomahawk Ribeye or any one of the select cuts, they seldom disappoint.

Walked in on a Tuesday night with no reservation. Typical contemporary chophouse atmosphere, but with lots of space and modern decor. Great service, by that I mean; attentive and knowledgeable wait staff, good service from the bar, and good kitchen timing. Two of us ordered a Tuna tataki to share and then a couple of New York steaks. The Tuna was pretty nice considering we were 1,000 miles from the sea (being very picky here as I'm a west coast man!). The steaks were tender, juicy, flavourful, and cooked precisely as ordered. Nice side dishes. A very good selection of wines by the glass. I will be back!

Why is it that there is always a connection between a mandatory tip followed by the receipt of lower service levels??? There happened to be 8 of us having dinner and absolutely everything dragged out for far too long.....drinks, ordering, timing of the meal......all with little apologies along the way, but why not just get it right???? The price is up there. The setting is nice. It's not portrayed as anything but higher end, so why not just get it right?
The steak was just ok. It reminded me exactly of what i would have received 30 years ago at a value priced chain called Mr. Mikes in BC. Medium rare came medium well, which is really unfortunate in a steak house in Alberta!! Sure, I could have sent it back but by 10:30, I just wanted to eat and be done with it at that point. And then the notification of the mandatory tip followed by the statement that if we had a problem with that, we could talk to her about it. Just not very well handled.
So, my recommendation is don't bother going here. There is nothing to distinguish it in a positive way and there is too much to be irritating at the price.
My guess is that I would have had a much better meal down the street at Ruth's Chris Steak House. But that's for another day.

I've been to the Lux a few times, including a time when it just opened. At that time the food was tasty, innovative and daring. Now it's a same old, same old steak house with little to distinguish it from the rest.

The wine selection is okay. If you order "by the glass" there is a fair bit to choose from by comparison to most restaurants. The bottle selection, on the other hand, wasn't deep and extensive and featured a fair bit of the same old wines you get everywhere. The beer section had a few craft beers, but again, the selection wasn't huge. Given how big their bar area is you'd think they would have a huge selection of both wine and beer.

The food is good. It's not the best steak house I've been to and it's not the worst. However, it's closer to production, franchise shops in terms of quality than it is to the high end independent places. The steaks are tasty but nothing from the rest of the meal jumps out at you. You can order the same old stuff - asparagus, mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes - you can order anywhere else.

You will have a perfectly fine evening if you go, but it doesn't have a "wow" factor and it seems to have slipped from when it first opened.

Been here a few times and have always really enjoyed my meal. Delicious steaks! The sides are amazing too, although you do have to pay for each side but its worth it. This is a higher end restaurant so bill won't be cheap, especially if your getting drinks, but for a special occasion, it's perfect.
