Description: Gaucho Brazilian Barbecue is located conveniently on busy Macleod Trail. Gaucho means ~ cowboy ~ and refers to our chef and owner Edmilson Rodrigues. Ede comes from the land of the Gaucho in the south of Brazil and has spent a lifetime introducing his food and culture to his guests. In our restaurant we feature a style of dining made famous in Brazil called, 'Rodizio'. Rodizio dining is like nothing you’ve tried before. To do it properly, budget an evening – or at least a few hours – and come hungry! Your barbecue chef of the evening will come around with massive churrasco-style skewers, each with a tender cut-of-the-day. Meat will be sliced straight to your plate, and it won’t stop till your table turns its card over to display the red side. To compliment your barbecue we feature hot and cold side dishes on our side bar. Our side bar is always changing to assure that our food is fresh and in season. Staples on the side bar include feijoada, the national dish of Brazil and bocconcini cheese made fresh weekly by local craftsmen. We recommend you try one of our traditional cocktails to 'open your stomach'- as Brazilians say! Remember to leave room for dessert like our traditional milk flan or the famous Barbecue Pineapple served on coconut ice cream and topped with guava sauce- we call it the 'Crowned King'! Gaucho has something for everyone! Come taste the experience!

“Room for much improvement”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

I went there on a Tuesday night so it was not very busy. The salad bar options are limited but ok because I went for the meat and lobster special for my birthday.
The service was rushed from the time we sat with our salad. We were told to flip the cow go green when you wanted service, and red when you wanted a break. The servers came constantly forcing one to say no thank you for now, with your mouth full! They were all so nice but a bit eager to serve you. Plus there carving skills are spot on.
The lobsters were tiny canners cut in half, and so over cooked it was hard to get the meat out of the shell.( Plus in the whole hour and a half they only had them twice.) The beef served was a nice variety, but most was very well done, I prefer med rare. There was also sausage, chicken ,shrimp, lamb, and chicken hearts. The salmon was only offered cold at the salad bar. There was no grilled pineapple at all.
Gaucho was a nice dinner out for a Brazilian dinner experience but I personally like Bolero better for about the same price.

“Not worth the price ”
Reviewed January 19, 2014 via mobile

We went as a group to Gaucho. The leader of our party requested the private room. They overbooked it so they squeezed us in the general area, it was very full and very loud. Salad bar had some good tasting options. Meat was ok but by no means fantastic. They have chicken hearts which was neat to try! I don't think ill be back again. Not worth the price they charge.

“Review by a Brazilian”
Reviewed December 27, 2013 via mobile

Excellent service, great meat, Gaucho knows how to run a true churrascaria in Calgary. Try their picanha - best cut - with a caipirinha or guarana soda! Suggestions for improvements: add more Brazilian salad items to the buffet and add papaya cream with cassis to the desert list.

“Vegetarian and vegan options!”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of vegetarian options available in their side bar. Lots of salad options, none of which were drowning in dressing, some of which were vegan. As well there were mashed potatoes, plain rice, black bean stew and fish stew. If you are a vegetarian or vegan with some sort of wheat allergy, be forewarned their black bean and fish stew are on the "do not have" list. That was another delightful discovery, instead of having a short menu of gluten free options, I was discretely given a single sheet of paper with items that were "Do not eat", because most of the food you can eat whether it's a wheat allergy or gluten-free lifestyle. :D It's nice to eat at a place where only one of six desert items is off limits. We were part of a group of seven. The servers did a great job covering both ends of the table. Last, if you like pop, bring an extra $28. The Brazilian soda is so good, you'll want to buy a 12 pack. They have those conveniently placed by the cash register which makes it easy to return to the restaurant just to buy a case.

“Arrive hungry”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

We were a larger group and had to book a 4:00 time due to all other times being booked already. The restaurant was already buzzing and full by 4:15 and with good reason, it's quite good. The salad/sides bar is fresh, well laid out, and varied. Once you have your plate ready, on comes the meat...and it never stops until you have entered a full-blown meat coma...chicken wrapped w/bacon, sirloin, chicken wings, parmesan steak, lamb, pork ribs, and chicken hearts. All continually served piping hot until you wave the white flag. The spices were done well, but may be a bit salty for some...all the more reason to order more Brazilian beer. Worth your money & time.
