A group of 8 professional and well-travelled women have Xmas brunch every year, for the past 12 years. Increasingly we have seen a decline in food quality but more importantly, given this is supposed to be social time, the service.
The food comes about at different times, so we politely wait, or feel awkward for those not eating. We have had many wrong orders, the wine sits with empty glasses, so we pour our own (no biggie) the waiter only brings one coffee and doesn't check with the rest of the group yet aggressively pushes dessert. We would have ordered more wine as we had arranged transport but we were all so disappointed and uncomfortable that we went elsewhere to a more service oriented place where we were greeted at the door, seated and beautifully served.
The greatest grievance about the food? The very expensive bacon was virtually raw and 80% fat. Isn't bacon supposed to be the best part of a brunch? Added to insult, the maître'd said he would give us free desserts, but could not comp the wine as it was out of his budget. .....ordinary prosecco.... then why say that? We did not ask. None of us are dessert eaters (we were there for the bacon!)
Sad end to a 12 year tradition and what used to be the best in Calgary.
