Description: Smuggler's Inn originally began in 1967 as Bar X Steakhouse, an American company. The current owner, Frank Krowicki, bought out his partners and went to work developing a brand new concept to Calgary. His vision included a mix of casual, late night fine dining and live piano bar. Over the years, the building expanded around Smuggler's Inn, with the addition of Winelite dining room on the west side, and Backstreet lounge and dining room on the north side. As the dining scene in Calgary began to change, Frank too saw a need to change and adapt. The first endeavour was the conversion of Backstreet lounge to Open Sesame in 2000. Open Sesame has been serving fresh, Pan Asian cuisine to happy customers ever since. The conversion of Backstreet dining room to Bolero was complete in 2007. As Calgary's first Brazilian style steakhouse, Bolero continues to satisfy meat lovers with its unique and interactive style of dining. Our latest addition is Tango Bistro, on the west side of the building, which once was Winelite dining room. At Tango Bistro, we bring together delicious, hand crafted small plates and fantastic wine to create a casual atmosphere for all to enjoy. In May 2013, Smuggler's Inn celebrated 40 years of serving mouth-watering Alberta prime rib and steaks alongside many original items, which have made us famous around the world. Four restaurants under one roof keeps us busy, but we wouldn't have it any other way. And the rest, as they say, is history! Smuggler's Group Rewards is a unique program that rewards you every time you visit us. For every dollar you spend, you earn points towards FREE Loyalty Certificates from Smuggler's Group Of Restaurants. Whenever you make a purchase, simply present your Smuggler's Group Rewards Card. “Slopping the hogs”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

It has been 15+ years since we had dinner at Smugglers. Was happy to find that we could get in at dinner hour (not a big rush on a Sunday). Decor is still the same which I could care less about. I was there for the food which was disapointing to say the least. Salad bar was mediocre and soups tasted "funny". Most of the food was flavorless. Beef was chewy and had odd sauce. Even the dip for one dish tasted like flour and water with coloring. Save yourself the time and go a few doors down to the Keg. Sad to see the quality has slipped. Not too long before the out of business sign is put out. Maybe a visit from Chef Ramsey could ignite some passion in the cooks. The wait staff were also lethargic. Wake up management!!!!

“Not as good as it used to be”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

The prime rib was good, as usual. But the service was slow and inattentive. The salad bar was missing their usual French dressing and other smaller items. Would be nice to have some gluten free deserts to do with the rest of the GF items on the menu.

“Hearty enjoyable brunch”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

After a week in Calgary we chose to have brunch at Smugglers before leaving to catch our plane home. We were seated in a great quiet, dimly lit section away from the buffet tables, which was nice as it was early-ish and we'd had a full week and little sleep. The selection at the buffet was enormous! From classics like eggs benny (2 kinds) and bacon, sausages, pan fried potatoes, belgian waffles, etc...to a cheese platter, sweets station (cinnamon buns, french toast, pastries, yogurt with cereal, shall i go on?). There was also a juice station with fresh oj, apple juice, cranberry juice and another i don't remember. I've hit on very few of the dishes set out, but my memory doesn't serve me well enough to put a full 'menu' here. I suggest you go. Try it. None of us were disapponted. We left full and happy, and definitely didn't need to eat again til much later in the day! Also, if you order tea, you get your own little pot that they continue to fill with hot water if you like. We were treated to some nice pita with homemade hummus during our meal too. Delivered right to our table, which was a nice touch.
The wait staff was attentive, clearing empty plates, refilling coffees, bring water if needed etc.
All in all, a nice end to a brilliant time in my favorite Canadian city apart my hometown Vancouver.

“Best Roast-beef”
Reviewed June 2, 2012

I have been going to Smugglers for most of my life.It always has great food and the atmosphere is great. Nice tall chairs to sit in comfort and my favorite spot is beside the open fire pit.
They also have a new section now which has Brazillian food. And we all enjoyed that as well.
