Description: Smuggler's Inn originally began in 1967 as Bar X Steakhouse, an American company. The current owner, Frank Krowicki, bought out his partners and went to work developing a brand new concept to Calgary. His vision included a mix of casual, late night fine dining and live piano bar. Over the years, the building expanded around Smuggler's Inn, with the addition of Winelite dining room on the west side, and Backstreet lounge and dining room on the north side. As the dining scene in Calgary began to change, Frank too saw a need to change and adapt. The first endeavour was the conversion of Backstreet lounge to Open Sesame in 2000. Open Sesame has been serving fresh, Pan Asian cuisine to happy customers ever since. The conversion of Backstreet dining room to Bolero was complete in 2007. As Calgary's first Brazilian style steakhouse, Bolero continues to satisfy meat lovers with its unique and interactive style of dining. Our latest addition is Tango Bistro, on the west side of the building, which once was Winelite dining room. At Tango Bistro, we bring together delicious, hand crafted small plates and fantastic wine to create a casual atmosphere for all to enjoy. In May 2013, Smuggler's Inn celebrated 40 years of serving mouth-watering Alberta prime rib and steaks alongside many original items, which have made us famous around the world. Four restaurants under one roof keeps us busy, but we wouldn't have it any other way. And the rest, as they say, is history! Smuggler's Group Rewards is a unique program that rewards you every time you visit us. For every dollar you spend, you earn points towards FREE Loyalty Certificates from Smuggler's Group Of Restaurants. Whenever you make a purchase, simply present your Smuggler's Group Rewards Card. “Second visit, did not disappoint.”

Interesting menu choices but what I really like is that you can build your own "bowl" with all your own favourites. Prices are very reasonable and good services.

“Love open sesame”
Reviewed August 13, 2013 via mobile

I have been coming here for years. Started off when I was younger to accommodate my large birthday parties.. There is a space that allows for groups of 20 which is awesome. I love the stir fry (don't recommend choosing pork though) and for people that say its lacking flavour, that's he beauty of this plas, the "market" is right there for you to add a bit more sauce to your prepared dish if need be. The brown white brownie is amazing for dessert too. Open sesame will continue to be go to of mine :)

“Great evening out”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

My family of 10 including one 6 year old went to Open Sesame for a birthday celebration. We had a great waiter and the food was plentiful and tasty. I was not too thrilled with the front end staff ( hostess and the girl that brought us our first drinks). They were okay but tended to give the attitude that we were disturbing them. The only other negative was the appitizers. They were nothing special but it could have been the 3 different things we ordered. Other than that this was a big success for all 10 of us. We would go again in a flash and the cost was very very reasonable.

“Never again. Never.”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Six of us went on a Friday night for dinner. Half went to the "market" where you pick the veggies and other half picked off the menu. My boyfriend did the market and picked the spiciest sauce, the Shezuan and when he got the bowl there was absolutely NO flavor. I picked the kung pao and it was breaded chicken strips in a very sickly sweet red sauce over rice with maybe two pieces of broccoli. There were some small dried chilis in the bowl but again, NO flavor. And definitely NOT my idea of kung pao. We asked for sriracha. We had dessert but the banana wontons were cold (thought the banana filling would be smokin hot) with cold ice cream. Waiter was quick and friendly enough but the food was very disappointing. Atmosphere is cool and there is lots of room for groups. The average menu item is $15 - $20 so not pricy but the quality is not great. Really, how hard it is to get a good stir fry with flavor? I would not go back nor would I recommend this place. Need reservations or you will be waiting. Despite the available parking, we still had to park a couple blocks away and walk because lots were full. Not bad unless its raining, or you have disabled persons with your party.

“Family member picked this as a "Thai" restuarant... NOT...”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

That being said it was a very pedestrian gastronomic experience and if you are the sort to be happy with "road house" eateries, you may well be completly satisfied.
As for me I actually like to eat out and have a meal that has great flavour and carefully chosen ingredients.
This is not that place.
I'm sure 8 of the 12 at our table thought it was fine...
