Had dinner with family and friends and the service is friendly and the food is great. We ordered Pork/Chicken/Fish as the main dishes and they are all very good. Desert we go with Creme Brulee and chocolate cake and it is fantastic. Not a budget restaurant but worth the money. The jazz at the basement is great too. Worth to try out.

My husband and I went to see if there was some jazz going on downstairs, after a play at the vertigo. upon entering upstairs in the piq niq part of the restaraunt the waiter cleaning up for the night was very nice, and super attentive. On that same topic the food is very good although pricey we've eaten here before. The waiter informed us that he wasnt sure, the band might still be playing another set, but they had started early. So we venture downstair to see. There is a small sign that says cover charge $15.00, but no one there to take the money. So we figure the band must not be playing again, theres obviously still people ordering drinks, so we decide to do the same. The bartender was very unattentive, and borderline rude. We order two standard drinks. while still at the bar my husband takes his visa out to pay for our two drinks. The bartender then asks if we want to start a tab we figure why not. We go and sit down 20 minutes later the band still hasnt played. Finally they get on set and play one song, and it is now almost midnight. So my husband goes to settle up the tab of two drinks and 25 minutes with the bar tender, and guess how much the bill was. $45.00

Now the reason we found this pure robbery is not because of a cover charge. Many places charge cover and its well worth the money! but it was because of the unattentive sneaky way the bar tender did this. When my husband mentioned to him that he didnt realize with ordering a beverage when no band was playing and no one to take the money at the door he would have to pay $45.00 just to here one song and drink a beverage that could have been made at home. The bartender merely stated that there is a sign so tough.

My altogether point is, it may be calgarys only good jazz club, but why would i want to support a place that takes as much money it can from you and laughs in your face.

Downstairs is the coolest, dark lit Jazz club. You can sense that you are entering a great venue as you walk down the stairs. Upstairs is very good too. Very low key friendly, attentive staff. This is not budget priced cooking but worth the $. The Boullibaise is the best.

What is a city without a decent jazz club... and Beat Niq is it for Calgary.
