Owner description: Based in Calgary, Canada, Spruce Meadows is the brainchild of the Southern family who built a Show Jumping complex at the foothills of the Alberta Rocky Mountains. It was in 1976 that the first Spruce Tournaments were held, with annual spectator attendances reaching over 50,000 by the end of the decade. Today, Spruce Meadows boasts one of the greatest outdoor equestrian venues in the world and offers an incredible experience for riders and fans alike. Spruce Meadows focuses on the organization and hosting of show jumping tournaments of unmatched quality for junior, amateur and professional athletes in a manner that reflects basic family values in a clean, green and welcoming environment that celebrates the horse and encourages the breeding and training of quality sport horses and the teaching and development of athletes.

We went to the Christmas craft fair at Spruce Meadows and it truly was an amazing display of creativity, fun, music & many crafts. We most certainly will be back to Spruce Meadows and it is the premiere attraction for our children's grandparents in Calgary, a must visit when in town.

We have cousins that come here from Grand Prairie every year to watch the jumping with us from Sundre. It is almost like a family tradition. The events and the staff at Spruce Meadows are over the top.

Every year they have the Equistrian Teams from all over the world compete for the "One Million" dollar prize. These riders and horses are the same ones that compete in the Olympics, and what a job they do. The attendance is FREE, the food is international and a little pricey, but really tasty. Food from Germany, England, Mexico, etc.
You can tour all the stables and see the foals and the younger jumpers being groomed. Love this place. It's over 50 acres of splendid landscaping, owned by the Sutherns, of the ATCO Group of Companies.
Now in December, there is two weekends where they have a huge Xmas Market and it is packed full of Vendors, and good Gifts to buy. We have gone about 4 different years. The kids get to have their picture taken with real Reindeers, as they are scattered all over the property, each protected by an attendant, so they don't poke someone in the eye with their huge antlers.
You have to see this place to appreciate the value and the generosity of the Suthern family, opening up their place to the public.

It was a cool place to visit. Very clean and friendly, the cost to get in to the Masters was cheap. Seeing the horses and going out onto the track was neat. Although its not something I would do all the time unless I was into horse racing.
