We were wandering around downtown Calgary and stopped in at Analog Cafe for coffee as one of my friends had heard it was really good. Was it ever! Smooth and velvety, without a hint of bitternes, it had me at hello.
Analog is a retail extension of Fratello Coffee Roasters, a local boutique coffee roaster, and as a result they are able to serve up their own sustainably-grown beans, which are sourced direct-trade from the farmers. You can taste the care that goes into each cup. Another location exists at the Calgary Farmer's Market which I hear is just as fantastic, and always lined up.
Even before my coffee was made I was loving the vibe I was getting from the place. Floor to ceiling windows make the interior bright and cheery, a large selection of vinyl LPs are stacked along the wall behind the counter, Edison lights shine over the butcher block counter where you can sit at a stool and enjoy your coffee, and chalkboards stand next to the exposed brick pillars, touting the prices and day's specials.
We had just come from lunch so weren't hungry, but there was a selection of freshly baked cookies, muffins & cupcakes from a few local bakeries that looked delicious. Even in the middle of the afternoon the place was busy enough, and it's easy to see why. When a company takes the time to do something the right way, and they put the proper care, love & attention to detail into each step along the way it shows, and the result is Analog Cafe.
