This was a surprise night out for my boyfriend's birthday. Staying downtown made sense since we had some plans in the general vicinity and were able to walk to them all. Hotel Elan is well situated one block off of the busy and trendy 17th Avenue. Being the block off helps with the noise too! Check-in was courteous and we were quickly in our very tastefully decorated King room.
The bathroom was amazing, with heated floors, adjustable lights and the most wonderful heated (and lit!!) toilet seat! :)
My only concern was that the heater/ac fan was very noisy. We just turned it off as the room temperature was comfortable enough.

Room Tip: We were set away from 17th Avenue and feel that this would be a quieter option.

Hotel Elan - so happy there is an alternative great hotel when staying in central Calgary. While the Elan is located near to the city core, it is in the heart of a community (17th Ave) that features bistro dining and interesting shops less the hustle and bustle of downtown. Spacious rooms - we stayed in a king-bed suite - which features a retro decor. Love the bright red furniture and bed linen accents. What captured my attention (as well as the heated seat) is the art photograpy in the rooms and common areas. Breakfast offerings are wonderful - enjoy.

Room Tip: Enquire about a room with a view of 17th.

Good Morning "Will return"!
Well said when you refer to Hotel Elan being a central Calgary location. The prefect mix of being close to the city core with the advantage of an easy walk to 17 Ave. So many incredible dining options as well as shops for those wanting to spend some time in unique shops. I am pleased to hear that you appreciated the art work individual to each room type. The art pieces reflect the name of each hotel room and suite. The common areas including the meeting rooms and breakfast room also have art pieces paired to their names. We look forward to your return visit!

We were only here for one night so booked into a single room with a queen size bed. The room was tiny but well appointed; microwave, mini bar, Kuerrig machine, robes.
As everyone says the heated toilet seats are the bomb. This was especially true as we found the room to be cold. With the thermostat set at 22 the fan blasted cold air and being a small room it could be felt everywhere.
Loved the option to turn out all lights from the bedside table, and the night light in the toilet for finding your way in the dark!
The complimentary breakfast was great with scrambled eggs, French toast, sausage, bacon and lots of cold choices. And not on styrofoam plates, an added bonus.
Great location, 1/2 block to good restaurants and eclectic shopping. Next time I might opt for a larger room.

I agree a meal always tastes better off of real plates rather than Styrofoam. All of our dishes, glasses and cutlery are professionally processed through our commercial dishwasher. So glad to hear you enjoyed the menu options of our complimentary expanded continental breakfast. As a boutique style hotel we offer a unique blend of hotel rooms, one bedroom suites and two bedroom suites. Our Queen hotel room is 243 square feet and the range goes up to our two bedroom Energizer suite at 973 square feet! On you next visit we will be more than happy to provide you with a site of all the room types and options. Thanks again for choosing to stay at Hotel Elan.

My husband and I stayed here on a Friday night so we could go for a couples massage and dinner for his birthday. We booked a two-room suite (part of a package deal), and the room was huge. It had two king-sized beds, a mini-galley kitchen, a meeting/dinner table for six, a small desk for two, and a sectional couch with a lounger. The bathtub was huge and had lights. The ceramic floor in the bathroom was heated, and so was the toilet seat. ("What's the big deal about a heated toilet seat?", I thought. Wait until you sit on one!). There was also a large shower that had a rain shower head, a hand-held shower head, and you could dial up the temperature. The room was also very quiet - we heard no sounds from outside or from other rooms.
The service at the front desk was as expected, and there was a warm continental breakfast available that was mediocre in quality, but convenient. The location is convenient for 17th avenue shopping and restaurants.

What a great way to celebrate your husbands birthday! The two bedroom suite you were in is just over 930 sq ft. The design with double thickness in wall construction and solid core doors was done to ensure our guests have an enjoyable and peaceful stay. Thanks again for choosing to experience Hotel Elan and we look forward to your next visit.

For a family Valentine's Day we headed south of downtown for a night at the Hotel Elan. Just a block away from the heart of the Red Mile, this hotel was a bit of a mystery to me having only seen the outside. Wow! What a treasure.

I was very happy to learn that there is heated underground parking since it was below freezing that night. Super nice in a city known for the cold. The lobby is very clean, bright and inviting. The front desk associate was super-friendly and helpful. We engaged her in our conversation about where we should go for dinner and she was absolutely delightful to chat with.

Off to our room which was enormous and beautiful. Right inside the door was essentially a galley kitchen. We used the fridge to chill some drinks and poked around the amenities fridge to see what goodies were stored away. Yum. The living room (yes a separate living room and bedroom) was very comfortable with a big couch which pulled out into a bed for our daughter. The living room led to a balcony overlooking lower Mt. Royal. It was nice to sit and watch the people scurrying along 17th Avenue. Even better is the fact that even being do close to all that action, the room was really quiet with no noise coming through the full-length windows.

The bedroom was amazing. Again, bright and comfortable and modern. I loved the reading lights and super-liked the heated toilet seat! (Did I mention it was freezing that night?)

We ended up walking a half block to the Vietnamese noodle house where we ordered our takeout to eat in our room. We unpacked the food and hung out just like at home. We also enjoyed the wine which was left for us by the hotel manager for our Valentines night. Thank you! That was very thoughtful. They even gave our daughter a colouring book and crayons to keep her busy. Clearly these are very thoughtful people who provide a great attention to detail.

In the morning after a great sleep in the very comfortable bed, we went downstairs to enjoy the complimentary breakfast. The selection was extensive with lots of hot and cold choices. True to form the attendant was very friendly and helpful, checking with us to make sure we had everything we needed to start the day.

It was hard to venture back into the cold after breakfast. We were so comfortable and so well taken care of that we didn't want to go. Oh well. It was a fantastic family Valentines getaway.

So pleased to read your detailed review on your recent family Valentine's Day stay at Hotel Elan! Our location just off of 17 Ave (Red Mile) is quickly becoming the alternative for those wanting to be close to downtown but walking distance to all the culinary options and unique fashion shops along 17th Avenue. We look forward to welcoming your family back for your next special family weekend and hopefully I can get one of your daughters famous coloring pieces for our Hotel Elan art collection!

We stayed for 6 nights in Feb 2014 in a king one bedroom suite, and this converted apartment building really ticked all the boxes for us. Finding this hotel was a very pleasant surprise for us, as we were unaware of a hotel in this area. The suite was very comfortable and provided all the amenities we liked in style. It was spacious and quiet, with a nice lounge area and half kitchen. The suite had two flat screen tv’s with tivo type ability, fast free internet and wi-fi, and a very nice/functional bathroom with a great shower and, such a treat in the winter, a heated floor and a heated toilet seat!

The location was good for us as we didn’t need to be in the city centre. There are many restaurants and coffee shops around, and a bottle shop across the street. This part of 17th Avenue can be a little dodgy at rare times but overall it’s quite okay, and we were very comfortable walking around at night.

Daily breakfast was included which consisted of continental fare and a few hot items, where both service and quality were good. There is a little gym which was sufficient enough. The front desk was always staffed and they were very helpful and prompt (the overhead door closer on our room became unattached and they fixed it very quickly, as well as replacing the battery in the in-room safe). The heated underground parking was a blessing as some days were below -20°C, and it was free over the weekend. The only negative was the king mattress was too soft for our liking.

For the price point we haven’t had many deals that delivered like Hotel Elan.

Thank you JMB for your feedback on your recent stay at Hotel Elan. Our heated underground parking, heated bathroom floors and toilet seats as you mentioned are certainly well appreciated by our guests in the winter we have been experiencing! Brisbane is a fare distance away from Hotel Elan but we look forward to seeing you on your next visit into Calgary!

This being my first time to Calgary, I stayed at Hotel Elan. I had special requests for my girlfriend the day after valentines day. I asked for chocolates and flowers to be in the room with 2 champagne flutes. Michelle worked with me to get the chocolates and have them in the room but told me to order flowers and have them delivered to the lobby and would be placed in the room. I got there and everything was neatly set up. They go above and beyond normal expectation. I will be coming back here most definitely!
