Although there have been several other restaurants at this location in the past, Bistro Rouge seems to be getting it right.
The large, somewhat informal bar area was quite busy and yet the service was very good. Some tasty microbrews on tap started the evening. An excellent array of appetizers kicked things off and let us know this was not a hamburger joint. The evening special was incredible, although it did take a while for it to be served.
The pricing was reasonable. the food really good, and the service friendly and efficient. Worth a visit.

Historically the west side of Calgary has not had many good restaurants. This lovely restaurant is changing that after replacing an Italian restaurant in the same location. The menu is short but everything we've tried so far has been great. The service is nothing to scoff at either. The only problem that reservations are required. Deciding to dine here at the last minute is not possible, just further testifying to the restaurant's excellence.

While visiting friends who live in in the vicinity of Bistro Rouge, we decided to try it for lunch since it just opened quite recently. It's located in a small strip mall, although the restaurant itself is quite large. The interior is quite pleasant but was not very busy for a Saturday at lunch time. We were given a nice table by the window. The lunch menu is printed on the paper table mats at each seat. We all found the menu to be fairly limited and most of the dishes were centered around eggs in one form or another.
The food was good and the helpings were generous but it would have been better had there been more of a selection. The prices were somewhat on the high side though.
Our server was excellent and she made sure our coffee cups were always filled and was very knowledgeable about the food selections. We didn't have to call her for anything. There are other restaurants in the same area so I think the Bistro will have some stiff competition.

The prime rib was okay. My martini with the lemon cello had too much ice. The burger was good but I had to add some more sauce . The truffle fries were a bit salty.

Had dinner with a friend here in December 2013. This was our first visit and didn't know quite what to expect. If you are expecting Rouge, it is not quite as fancy and romantic-hence the name "bistro". We both had one of the paillards, which we both enjoyed. We shared an order of bistro fries which were very tasty and good as far as bistro fries go. We both ordered the creme brulee which was very good but basic. My only real disappointment was the salad which was whole romaine leaves with some ok croutons and lardons. It was sitting in a pool of very thin, average tasting dressing. I would skip that dish. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would return.
