“Neat place”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

Went to Village Square Leisure Centre for the first time this past weekend (jan 2013) with my husband and 5 year old daughter. It has wonderful murals on the wall with a jungle theme. It has a nice big wave pool with a rope swing. There is a baby/toddler pool which does not have slides but just a small shallow pool. There is a kids waterslide area that ranges in different size of waterslides, the problem with this area is that if you have a child that doesn't like water being dumped on their head it is basically impossible to use this area. My five year old likes going under water, but hates water dropping on her head so this was no good for her. There are two smaller uncovered side by side slides in this area for younger kids and then a area to climb through with two other bigger slides. Both of these slides are covered and dark to go through, again not so good for the little kids if they don't like the dark. The waterslides in the other area of the pool are much too big for a kid of that age with water over the head at the bottom of the one. The hot tub is nice and big and not too hot, just right. The air in the building however, was very cold which made pool time last only about 5 mintues before needing a warm up. I think this is a great place but I think there should be slides that are made a little more for younger kids without the spraying water. There is also a dry play area for kids, never went in there but looked like fun. They have the "within arms reach" if your child is under 7, this is a bit frustrating for a child that is under that age and is a good swimmer.

The ladies change room was discusting, popcorn and chip bags and toilet paper all over the floor that was there when we arrived and still there when we left, definatley in need of some cleaning staff in there regularly. The lockers take a looney that you get back when you leave. The price to get in was decent, especially when you can take advantage of the parent/preschooler rate. I would return here but not until my daugher is a couple years older and big enough for the larger slides.

“Best in the city...”
Reviewed December 16, 2012

Village Square Leisure centre in Calgary's NE is very similar to SW Southland Leisure Centre (also City operated, and also undergone recent renovations). In my view, it's the best (and biggest) of the wave pools. The Leisure Centre is bright, clean, and expansive... great for a couple hours, or to make a day out of. There are two slides, the smaller ending in the dive tank... the larger, Thunder Run, with enclosed tubed sections showing outdoors from its tower. The wave pool has a deep end (and swinging rope for when waves are off) and goes to nearly zero-depth (it also has a separate area for younger swimmers. The hot tub, moved and made larger since renovations, is HUGE and ramp accessible. Smaller swimmers have an entire section (of slides and activities) and older swimmers and adults will have plenty to do. Great way to get active!
