“Not your average donut!”

Jelly Modern Doughnuts
Ranked #5 of 35 Bakeries in Calgary
Restaurant details
Reviewed August 13, 2012

We stopped here twice during a recent trip to Calgary. A fabulous assortment of unique donuts. They come in two sizes so you can sample without suffering total guilt about the calorie count. Donuts are very light. (More like Krispy Kreme than Tim's.) Check their menu to see if the donut you want is available on the day of your visit as not all varieties are prepared every day. Donuts that were unbelievably good were the following: maple bacon, lemon curd, and s'mores.

What a fun find! Inside this little bakery is a display counter guaranteed to make you drool - an assortment of about 12-15 gourmet flavoured doughnuts that were nearly impossible to choose between! We tried a coconut cream and a s'mores doughnut and both were delicious. The price point is quite affordable, and there is a great litlte seating area on fuscia cushions to savour your treat with a cup of tea or coffee. We even noticed advertising for a preschooler's story time (free, but must reserve a space) including crafts and doughnuts for the littlest customers. So cute!
It will be hard to pace ourselves now that we have discovered this place. Next time we're trying the famous maple bacon flavour and the lemon curd!

Lived up to all our expectations! Try the peanut butter, lemon cream and bacon donuts. You will not be disappointed. Look for their food truck on the Stampede grounds or their location south of the downtown core.

We were seduced by John Catucci's enthusiastic review of the restaurant's wares on You've Gotta Eat Here and ithe great website. We hiked from the Palliser Hotel on 34 C day to try these goodies. We arrived later in the afternoon and some of the stock was depleted. Still, we managed to sample the alleged star- the maple and bacon, as well as the peanut butter and jelly, the coconut, the lemon, and the vanilla.
The verdict - OK , but I was expecting so much more, especially of the maple bacon.
Hardly worth the trip. Holt Renfrew was also selling some of the doughnuts, at least during Stampede.
