Have not stayed overnight so cannot comment but DO NOT recommend the afternoon tea. Was there on Feb 25, 2012. No menu was given to show what was being served. Fruit cup was served and after a long wait for the tea we asked which sandwiches were coming out. We were told 4 types cucumber, crab salad, salmon and pastrami. When we mentioned 2 of the people at the table do not eat seafood and could we please get substitutions the response was ``Well the sandwiches are already made up, let me just bring out what we have and you can decide then if you want something different``. This was puzzling because we had just said we wanted something different but the server appeared unwilling to have the Chef make something different. Then when the sandwiches arrived we were told the crab salad was actually chicken salad.
The tea became cold and too strong quite quickly, I had to leave the table to ask for hot water to refresh the pots as the young server was inattentive and the hot water they brought was lukewarm. Probably the worst cup of tea I have had.
The sandwiches lacked flavor, the scones were cold and dry, the pastries were mediocre. No chocolate offerings in the dessert selections or anything decadent or interesting, just dry and boring cookie type desserts.
I didn’t expect high tea such as in London or Scotland and didn’t even expect the fare served in Victoria BC at the Fairmont Empress. Nov 2011 I had a lovely Afternoon Tea experience at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver and I thought it was reasonable to expect a similar experience here. Big mistake and a big waste of money.
