“Excellent, you have to try it.”

Our first taste of Persian cuisine and it was amazing. Wednesday night was quiet. Food and service were fantastic. Large entree servings left us enough for a tasty lunch. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Proud of their unique dishes - Persian pizza, made-in-house ice cream.
A must try.

“Try the vegetarian pizza...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2012 via mobile

Visit Shiraz for a unique food experience. Many of the dishes are family recipes like the pizzas and the rose water pistachio ice cream. The owners/operators are friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is nice for a night with family and friends or a date. Call ahead for a reservation if you would like a booth :)

“Excellent Persian Cuisine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2012

Our first visit to this restaurant, impromptu on a Friday night. We managed to get a table, despite the restaurant being very busy. The food was excellent, and quite authentic. The service fantastic. Friendly, and non intrusive, yet quick. I have persian friends, and have had dinner many times at their house, and the food is incredible, especially when their mother cooks. This food was very close to that! Considering it was restaurant, it tasted home made and was fresh and very tasty. They also offer you free additional rice or pita bread. The desert was amazing. Pistachio ice cream with rose water! A must try! A calgary Avenue Magazine must try as we were told by our server, the daughter of the chef/owner. Who was an excellent person to have as our server. The decor is the usual tacky ethnic design with fake flowers etc. But it works! The pricing is reasonable also, and a great place for a group or special occasion.

“Authentic Persian cuisine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2012

We have been to Shiraz twice in the last two months and enjoyed a good meal at a very reasonable price.

First of all, the name is a bit confusing -- it has nothing to do with the red wine, but is named after a city in Iran with that name.

The decor is perhaps a bit tacky: booths upholstered with bright red fake leather for four, plus a few (too) small tables for two.

The service was very pleasant and personable -- once we were served by the owner, once by his daughter. Both were very helpful, and the timing was just about perfect. Shiraz will appeal to, well first of all Persians of course, and to adventurous eaters. I loved the okra stew, and my wife raved about her walnut/pomegranate stew, both served with saffron rice. They have delicious homemade ice cream as well.

The wine list would make a sommelier cringe, but then Shiraz does not pretend to be a 5-star restaurant, and for $7/glass I found the Pinot Noir okay.

The first time we went the place was not busy, so we did not think we needed a reservation the second time, but the place was packed and nearly every table was reserved -- we were lucky to get the last table, so make sure you reserve ahead.
