Enroute just named this restaurant "best new in Calgary". We have been there a few different times - for the evening wine scene, and for dinners. Last evenings' meal was good - just a little different. Two whole trout, perfectly cooked and tasty, accompanied by shaved striped beet salad, mild blue cheese dressing (a little too much liquid I thought), and some other unusual chewy dried fruit perhaps? It worked, but was one of the stranger taste sensations and combinations to my experience.
My companions' rib-eye steak (for one - they have an amazing one for 2 as well), was again perfectly cooked, and the accompanying bean and tomato sauce it sat on was tasty, but the kale (we were going for healthy here I guess) was much too spicy and overpowered the dish, and was left on the plate. All of the crispy potatoes cooked in duck fat were consumed though. Delicious!
The "Milks'" Wine list is strong and varied and always something suitable to match the foods.
Service is attentive and enthusiastic although I could do without the "runner" who brought out our mains, tapping on the back of my chair as he described the dishes. Also, seating can be crowded, and noisy.
Still, a great addition - the calamari dish is a terrific creation - to the Calgary food scene. Thank you Chef.
