St. James is a pub, but its food is a notch or two above your ordinary pub grub, and is priced accordingly. They have a wide selection of appetizers (the poutine is good) and their entrees were filling. The beer selection was wide-ranging, complete with several local brews. Our server was friendly and chatty and knowledgeable about both the beer and the menu selections.
The pub was a bit crowded, but we didn't have a problem getting a table and didn't feel rushed. This is clearly the local for a lot of people, but we felt right at home. If you are staying at the Hotel Arts and want a more casual environment, I recommend it.
