“Great bar for food, hockey & live music”
Reviewed December 8, 2013 via mobile

The Palamino has a great basic menu of hearty steak-house meals (there is a veggie burger) and a decent selection of beers and bourbons. Meals are great value while beers are a little pricey.

There's plenty of room for hoardes of drinkers (which there were when we visited on account of an Xmas themed pub crawl) as well as diners.

Huge TVs aired hockey games from all over while an awesome sound system pumped music perfect for the atmosphere.

Downstairs there is a designated concert venue which doesn't impact on the eatery upstairs or via versa.

All in all, had a great time made even better by its central location nearby the train station and 17th av.

“Not just for the grungy ignorant masses :)”
Reviewed October 30, 2013 via mobile

Couldn't believe that someone suggested this restaurant is for the ignorant. The lunchtime crowd would suggest otherwise, the Palomino is frequented by office workers from the many nearby office towers, situate next to the Hyatt and the Bow I wouldn't describe is as being in a dodgy part of town, although for the out if towners the plethora of street people may be overwhelming. The Palomino offers straight up food, of you don't like BBQ sauce or bacon this is not your restaurant. The inside is well worn and has an authentic pub-like feel, if you want pristine walk down to one of the chain restaurants nereby, milestones, saltlik or earls. If you want a beer and the best bake beans you ever tasted, visit the Palomino

“Tasty Food - Lunch Review”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

Had their lunch special (spicy chicken sandwich) this week. Have been before so I know what to expect.

I enjoy the different spices they use in their meals. Chicken burger was tasty and satisfying. Really enjoyed the grilled veggies. Should have asked for the salad dressing to come on the side. There was just too much for me to enjoy the full salad.

Service was exceptional and quick.

The have a patio out back that can be a nice place to have a beer. Not much people watching from the back patio though.

For Calgary restaurant prices I think the Palomino is pretty good value.

“Just Gross”
Reviewed August 11, 2013 via mobile

This is not real BBQ. Food is made in an electric smoker. This place caters to the ignorant masses. Grungy atmosphere in a dodgy part of town.

“Just do it!”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

This place is a personal favourite - and truly has never let me down in years! Whether it's for the great bbq, amazingly delicious side dishes or the simply great live music venue, in my opinion, you cannot do better.
Last time i was there i only had time for a quick lunch and had the beef brisket sandwich, juicy smokey and plentiful between the buns, with cheese grits, tasty thick but not stiff and rich full flavour, and a vineagrette style coleslaw, that i ate half of and the other half gave to my wife to put on her pulled pork sandwich.
My wife's pulled pork was just as good with a great sauces. For a side she had the caesar salad - which was the low point because the salad was just average, but the garlic fries truly knocked it out the park.
