“Great Food - but loud”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Had a lovely dinner to celebrate my sister's birthday, but would have been nice to hold a decent conversation. The room is interesting with a large mirrored wall but it only serves to reflect more of the noise back to the tables. The porchetta was a great meal well presented and enjoyed our salad. The rest of our group were also impressed, and while a bit pricey, no worse than other top end restaurants in the city. Our service was also noteably good. Only other complaint was that the room was uncomfortably warm on a not-too-hot day. Fortunately I had dressed casually, would have been unbearable with a jacket on.

“Good food but loud”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

Went to NOtaBLES for dinner with friends. The wine list is decent but the prices are quite high. The service was timely and pleasant. The food was properly prepared and presented well. The main complaint is that the noise level in the restaurant is very high making it very hard to have a conversation.

“Lovely, somewhat pricey”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

It's possible to order three "tasters" and water, and perhaps spend only $60 for some very interesting food (the Dungeness crab is especially good). But if you want a meal cooked over the wood-fired oven (changes by day of the week) and some decent wine, then dinner for two will be in the $200 range. Not bad, considering what you get. Calgarians line up for the restaurant - the place is packed by six - but tables are easy pickings at 5.30. Attentive service, closely-packed tables, interesting wine list, pleasant rock music background usually kept at a low level.

“Food acceptable- wines dubious, service meh”
Reviewed August 1, 2013 via mobile

Had dinner there last evening. Steak was good, risotto very good. sides with steak and charcuterie average.

What was very disappointed was the by the glass wine choices for red wine. 2 Pinots offered had the distinct robustness of red Kool-Aid and we're lacking in any typical Pinot goodness. May have been left open too long. Shiraz offered was bargain-basement but not bargain-basement price.

Complained about my $16 glass of Pinot, they took it away, still showed up on the bill.

Felt ignored by service staff, bartender had to Bus our dishes.

It doesn't pay to be a wine snob if you're not willing to splurge on a full bottle. Hard to buy a full bottle when drinking alone.

Enjoyed my steak but won't hurry back.

“Consistently excellent”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

We have been to this restaurant many times and have always thought that the food was very tasty. The combinations of ingredients is very inventive with unique combinations. The wait people are excellent here and really know how to describe the dishes and suggest wines. There has only been one visit that we had to ask the waiter to turn down the music several times. I think, in retrospect, it may have been the spot in the restaurant where we were seated as we gave it another try and haven't had an issue since. It has a very comfortable/functional decor and we are happy to suggest that you enjoy a visit there also. They are also, apparently, popular for their roasted chickens that can be orderd ahead of time and picked up. They take reservations and also keep places open for drop-ins but it is popular so plan ahead.
