My friend and and I ate at the restaurant, and by happenstance later that evening I saw chef Connie DeSouza winning a contest on the Food Network Show, Top Chef. Appetizer number one was the Beet Salad featuring two different types of beets with a delicate soft goat cheese that melted in you mouth. Tried my friend's bone marrow escargot combo and it was only lacking in quantity, could have ordered two more servings. Followed that with a kielbossa accompanied with a mustard seed that was perfectly matched. My friend's croquettes were tasty, but as far from diet food as you can imagine. We then split a mortadella infused with copious pistacchio nuts - exceptional. Topped it off with the Heritage chicken and a cheese plate, both wonderful offerings. Wine list week, but a good Barbera D'Albi worked just fine. Good espressso and a lovely desert wine capped off a wonderful evening.

Charcut Roast House is one of the newest restaurants to hit the Calagry dining scene, and it does not dissapoint. The kitchen is led by Canada's Top Chef contestant Connie DeSousa who has a passion and skill for all things meat. The menu is unapologetically meat oriented, which suits me and my friends just fine (but be aware vegetarians may have little to pick from). The food is excellent and is all made in house. I highly recommend the Charcut Board (a great sampler of many different meats). Ordering involves purchasing mains and sides seperately, so if it is your first time make sure you get the waiter/waitress to explain the process. Do not miss one of Canada's best new restaurants and one of the best chefs around.

We booked a table here for our first Saturday night in Calgary after reading the reviews. We were promptly welcomed and shown to our table, which was sandwiched between two larger tables of 4, so wasn't such a great location for a romantic meal when both tables were full of other parties talking. The restaurant is lovely, but we were facing other tables and a mirrored wall and didn't really get a feel for the atmosphere in there. When we first arrived there were some tv's on playing the hockey with a large loud group of sports fans watching.
The menu is nice, but could maybe offer a better selection and looking back, I do agree with some of the reviews here that it's expensive in comparison to other lovely restaurants we visited on our holiday. Our waitress was friendly and answered any questions that we had about the menu, however it took longer than normal to order and then receive our drinks.
We ordered the prime rib board to share, which was accompanied by broccoli, potatoes and a jus, which was nice but we should have maybe ordered some more sides to go with the meal.
Overall a potentially great restaurant and location in the city, but feel that there are areas that could be improved to make this a more memorable occasion.

Food was tasty buy way overpriced for what you get. Prime rib was $35.00 for 8 oz and that was all you got, a slice of prime rib. An order of clams was $17.00, Side order of asparagus $9.00. Left hungry but no way were we going to spend any more money there.
