The Palliser is lovely -- big, high vaulted lobby, updated well-appointed rooms. The staff is superb.
But when are high end hotels going to get the memo that the rest of the world is giving away wi-fi for free? It's like charging for hot water.
Instead, these hotels want 13 or 15 dollars a day, perhaps the single most alienating thing they can do to their customers [I understand most are business travelers and expense it]. I was told if I signed on to their 'loyalty club' wi-fi would be free. I do not feel loyal to hotels that charge for wi-fi. But I am a cheap bast'd so I did it. I felt like I was like making a hostage tape. I told that to the poor person on the phone and at least she laughed.

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay with us - we're sorry to hear you found the registration purpose/process for Fairmont President's Club an annoyance - it's only to get to know our guests better and determine their passions as we love to surprise and delight our guests.

We hope you then, enjoyed the free access to Wi-Fi.

See you next time.

And the Palliser did not disappoint ... Great location and friendly staff... It's great value for your $$$ in downtown Calgary (which is pricey - all year round due to oil prices!) we will stay again next time we visit. Valet your car as everything is within walking distance !

We're so happy you found value in your room rate to stay with us! Your indeed right, many corporate business travelers visit our city from Sunday thru Wednesday which impacts demand, which impacts rate. Visit us on a weekend to find our rates even that much more affordable.

First off, we loved that this beautiful and historic hotel is close to Calgary Tower, restaurants, and Stephen Avenue. We only spent 3 days in Calgary and it was easy to explore the landmarks nearby. There's Starbucks downstairs if you need caffeine fix. It also helped us that the bus stop to take you to and from the airport is walking distance.

The staff were helpful, but not overly friendly. It's probably because we came on a busy time. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

Reviews from TripAdvisor recommend to request for rooms not facing the railroad, but we forgot to mention this during check-in. Fortunately, we didn't encounter any problems with the noise. It was either no train passed by, or we were just to comfortable in our sleep to notice.

Hello there,

Thank you for your recent review with us - we're happy to hear you found our location convenient and that Starbucks met your coffee needs!

The train schedule too, varies throughout the year, so we're happy to hear you didn't find it a bother.

It's a special place, the hotel's site, in that the traxx are what connected Canada back in the day, and 100 years ago, June 1, 1914, we were grateful for the reason the city needed a grand historic hotel.

Hope to have you back again soon.

We recently stayed at the Palliser and it was terrific! Stay on the Gold Floor if you can as the rooms are nicely updated and the Gold Floor Lounge was terrific. We had dinner in the dining room on two nights and it was fantastic with great service.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Gold Floor and it was definitely a step up.

If you are coming to Calgary for the Stampede - then this is the only hotel. It sits directly in the middle of the parade route and offers ample seating in the shade, plus the hotel will reserve a seat for you if you plan ahead. the hotel and it's storied history are fascinating - look it up for yourself. Our upgraded room was worth every penny. You must gain access to the President's Club in the Penthouse - exceptional staff and breakfast and views and everything - probably one of the nicest if not nicest concierge type environments we have ever had the privilege of experiencing - save for the Waldorf, Rome.

Everyone at the hotel was over the top helpful and friendly. Our room was spacious and could not have been nicer - again, worth the upgrade. But the BEST part of all was having breakfast with William Shatner and his wife, daughter, son in law, and 2 granddaughters. Well, we ate mere steps away from them in the President's Club, but gave them their space like all the other good folks did. Nonetheless, it made our stay that much more memorable. Who knew James T Kirk was a Canadian by birth and this year's Grand Marshall?!

Another thing - the hotel has to be the most centrally located property in the entire town. We made easy walks to the River Park; the observation tower is right next door; 7th avenue blocked off for pedestrians only at Stampede was a 3 minute walk; restaurants galore and the indoor mall, again, a mere 5-10 minutes walk.

Don't even think about it - stay here!

Room Tip: Must upgrade to the Penthouse President's Club level
