A Calgary landmark. Like many great Canadian hotels built by Canadian Pacific Railways and now in the sure and reliant management of Fairmont. London Ritz meets Canadian plains but nicely informal. Opened in 1914 which makes it an ancient landmark in this city. Liked the way all the staff dressed up in Cowboy shirts and hats for the Calgary stampede. You sense the bar is a great meeting place where you can also order meals in a relaxed atmosphere - big portions and of course chops and steak on the menu. Sensibly they have not removed the old brass fitments - the post box and the internal communications system in the lift lobby.

We loved the Fairmont Palliser. Its a lovely historic hotel. We found it quite easily from the airport, but found parking (on a Friday) quite expensive. It was handily located for the Calgary Tower and an easy walk to the town. We tried out the spa which was very nice, although the pool was cold. The room was nicely furnished, good toiletries. Coffee maker but no kettle for my tea! We did manage to make some though, with a bit of creative cup balancing. I loved the old bar and reception areas, really lovely.

Stayed in this hotel for one night as part of the Rocky Mountaineer Train package. Lovely old hotel to look at but if you are after somewhere that gives you a quiet night sleep this is not the place. We could hear everything happening in the corridor of our room and as the calgary stampede was on there was a lot happening. Didn't get much sleep for doors banging and people talking up and down the corridor, including the room service staff. Beds were also the smallest double beds I have ever slept in.

Our family (with parents) stayed in late May and in early June as a bookend to our trip to Banff National Park. We had three rooms and it was a great spot for access to downtown Calgary. Staff were fantastic here and very helpful. Rooms are as you would expect from a Fairmont.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the start of our Canadian road trip and had hired a car from the airport. Parking is right next door to the hotel and was very cheap ($20 approx) for a whole weekend. The hotel is beautiful, with lots of original features, impressive lobby and spacious bedrooms. We checked in and the member of staff who helped us was the only negative of our stay here, as she wasn't very welcoming or helpful. The concierge was really helpful and suggested a restaurant for breakfast calls Reds, which was delicious and worth the 10 minute walk from the hotel.
The bedrooms are very well appointed with good sized bathrooms, walk in closet and safe as well. The pool area, located in the basement, was nice with a jacuzzi and loungers to relax.
The location is excellent within the city centre and I would recommend this hotel, particularly as we booked this via the Fairmont website and got what we felt was a very good deal for 2 nights stay.

Stayed at the Palliser for one night since my usual place was sold out. Overall, the hotel itself is gorgeous and very typical of the Fairmont chain. Our room however was below average. Many reviews speak of renovated rooms which I don't believe we had as it was stuffy, warm (even with the AC on) and cramped. There was also a particular odor when you exited the elevator on the third floor. It was a musty smell that was most unpleasant. Definitely can't fault any of the staff, all extremely pleasant and professional.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review The Fairmont Palliser on TripAdvisor. As of June 2011, we have completed a significant renovation project to include floors 4, 5 and 6 and an expanded Fairmont Gold level on floors 7 and 8. We have also added a brand new Fairmont Gold Lounge on our Penthouse level and completely renovated our Canadian Pacific corporate boardroom. We are very excited about our newly renovated product and anticipate a fully-refurbished hotel by 2012.

We sincerely appreciate your feedback and we have shared your concerns with the appropriate teams. We look forward to the opportunity of becoming your usual hotel in Calgary.

I enjoy staying at Fairmont hotels, and 10 minutes in the Palliser is all it takes to appreciate why. This is one of the old grand CP Rail hotels, built at the turn of the century and impeccably maintained since. It's beyond spotless - I don't want to say you could eat off the lobby floor but that isn't far off. You couldn't find a speck of dust if you tried.

Check-in was very quick and convenient, but before hurrying up to the room one must pause and soak in the elegance of the grand lobby. It is easy to envision first class travelers here during the Roaring 20s, crossing Canada in grand style. The term 'stunning' doesn't quite do justice.

The room was very typical Fairmont - beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable bed, high speed WiFi, big TV, big windows with spectacular views of the downtown with the mountains looming in the distance. The room appears to have been renovated within the previous year or two, as everything looked new and perfect. Turn-down service in the evening was appreciated - including the mint chocolates left on the nightstand.

Check-out was also very quick and easy. I did not eat in the hotel restaurant, but would imagine it to be wonderful. It certainly looks the part.

The Palliser is a great hotel that's centrally located in downtown Calgary. Why stay anywhere else?

Room Tip: Rooms facing north or west ofer the best views. Ask for a high floor.
