I've had the pleasure of visiting Cantos on several occasions over the last year, most recently for their All Star Blues Jam raising funds and awareness for the restoration of the legendary King Eddy Hotel and the National Music Centre. That evening was a rich mix of talented musicians jamming for an appreciative crowd in their main hall. I've attended several of their other events that showcase the diverse array of programming that they have to offer for music-o-philes and musicians alike.
If you're a visitor to Calgary or even a local, this is a must see destination for any music lover. Tours of their facility and their staggering collection of musical instruments are conducted on Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons. There's a modest fee or request for donation to attend one of the tours.
Visit their website in advance to see if they have any programming taking place during your visit. Currently they host a great blues jam every Monday night, there's a free after-school Guitar Club jam session for kids ages 12-17 on Thursdays from 3pm-5pm, Reggae Lunch & Learns one Thursdays per month, among others.
