While visiting my boyfriend in Calgary, we decided to go on a tour at the Big Rock Brewery in Calgary. I had been on winery tours - but quite honestly knew nothing about the process of brewing beer. Our tour guide (a lovely blonde-haired woman whose name escapes me now) was very enthusiastic and knowledgable. She led us on a tour of the brewery where I got to learn about the process and peak in to large tanks to view the brew in its earlier stages After the tour we tasted many different kinds of Big Rock Brewery's beer. I'm glad we did the tasting at the end - because the tour taught me about how and why a lager will taste and look different from an ale, what the color of the beer means and where the color comes from, how hops define an IPA, and so on. I enjoyed their Traditional Ale the most during the tasting - they also have a delicious cider! If you are in Calgary - or if you live there and want something fun to do, check this place out :) You build your own 6 pack at the end of the tour!
