“Nice surroundings”

Its a nice place but its too busy, not quiet and very crowded. The food court is not any better than anywhere else, infact I dont think its that great of a selection. Good luck even finding a table.

Need a break from the cold or just need to feel like your out of the city for a short period of time, just take a stroll or sit & relaxe in the newly renovated Devonian Gardens. Very nicely done.

“Not what it used to be....”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

For those folks familiar with the original Devonian Garden space, this will be a sad disappointment. Once occupying the whole 4th floor, the arboretum space is only a third of what it was, with the floor now open to the mall below, and a food court ringing the center and west sides. The east side "gardens" and ponds are now uniform, modern groupings of plants and trees, with none of the charm of the original gardens, which had little nooks, crannies and private alcoves to explore or simply relax and reflect. Repititions of the same plants abound, and gone are the beautiful flowers that bloomed with the seasons. The main area is a wider space with only the few terraces on the sides remaining. While the ponds have a better pump and circulation system for the fish than it did before, the overall pond layout seemed rather stark and boring.
On the upside, as a mall food court it is a beautifully modern place, with an overhead skylight, upgraded washroom facilities, several tasty choices for meals and plenty of seating throughout the floor. For someone looking for something other than the typical run of the mill food court experience in the middle of the city, I would recommend it. However, I would hesitate to call this place the "Devonian Gardens" any longer...

“Now it's a mall space with no stores.”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

There is nothing left of the character of the old Devonian; the 'modern look' means only the same plants, in the same arrangements, surrounded by blocks with holes in them that constantly expel uniform streams of water. It's now the same as any mall area anywhere with the notable exception of a lack of shops in the area. The old Devonian was an oasis in the downtown core; this one is a blocky tribute to its own lack of class. No romance, no interesting features, I visited with high hopes and ended considering creating a faux-website of four varieties of plastic plants that caters exclusively to the Devonian. TL;DR? Disappoint, son.
