“Excellent place to begin a honeymoon!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2006

We chose to stay here for our first two nights of honeymoon. We found our room to be luxurious with the fire and comfortable bed, and loved the added extras of tea and breakfast snack early in the morning - ideal for our jetlag! Staff were pleasant, the inclusive breakfast was 'gourmet' and tasty and it was handy to have access to DVDs. It's within minutes walk of local restaurants, which are safe to get to, and certainly has much more character than the usual chain hotel.

On the downside, it is on a busy main road BUT - and this suprised me - the triple glazing means you don't hear the traffic at all! Our room was small, but this made it cosy rather than inconvenient and the decor makes it feel like a luxuriant 'home from home'. If you don't like the gourmet breakfast on offer, they will make you something else at a cost, but this seems reasonable considering every other hotel we stayed in Canada did not have any kind of breakfast included at all.

We were excited to stay here based on location and reviews. Avid travellers and experienced with great B&B's we were shocked to find used condom wrappers, ear plugs, and some trash under our bed! Breakfast ends at 9:00AM, and we made it only one morning having walked to the local coffee house the other 2 days. Since it is a Bed and Breakfast you would think your breakfast was included. BE WARNED! There was a sign on the table that mentioned an additional charge for inviting a guest to breakfast, but said NOTHING about there being a charge for latte or cappicino, yet a $9.00 charge did appear on our bill upon check out! We were shocked. So for $300.00 a night in the smallest room available we definitely were not thrilled. Appetizers though served in the evening were very simple and mostly served later than they specified. Some staff was overly attentive and owner was not able to give a recommendation for a special place to dine?! We were unimpressed with the Kensington in that seems to think it is "THE PLACE" in Calgary

My husband and I stayed at the Kensington Riverside Inn the night before a flight from Calgary to Boston at the end of February 2005. We had just spent a week at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and despite the fact that the Fairmont was fantastic, the Kensington blew us away! The location is right on the river, in easy walking or driving distance to shops and sites of interest.

This is an absolutely charming small inn, with 19 rooms, all individually decorated. We paid CDN $199 for an Executive King Room (this is a special weekend rate), which had a gas fireplace, a private patio, king sized comfy bed with tons of pillows, two chairs, free high speed internet access, tc/vcr, cd player, and fantastic bathroom. The bathroom had a huge tub with shower, a separate shower stall, and heated towel racks. It was like staying in my own bedroom, except this was a lot nicer! And it was all sparkling clean.

There are lots of extras included in your room price, including free parking in a secure, heated underground garage, a library of vhs tapes which you may borrow to watch in your room, evening hors d’oeuvres, turn down service where you are provided with chocolates and earplugs, and a cookie jar stocked with cookies in the lobby/living room. There is a nice living room with an honor bar, with alcoholic drinks, juices, and sodas.

Also included in the room price is a tray of coffee or tea and bread, as well as two newspapers, delivered outside your room door between 6-7 am. You are then served a delicious breakfast in the hotel's dining room. Cold cereal and yogurt were available and on the morning we were there, the breakfast menu was lemon souffle, bacon, toast and coffee.

All of the staff are friendly and helpful.

I still can't believe the bargain price of this great hotel. I highly recommend staying here when you visit Calgary.

Stayed here during Labour Day long weekend. Very nice quiet hotel, well appointed. Staff courteous and efficient. Kensington area is a neat area, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, but very convenient to, it across the Louise Bridge. Breakfast is included. Recommended.

We stayed there a year ago and I decided to write this review because I still remember how fantastic it was.
The rooms were large and luxurious, complete with fireplace, egyptian cotton towles - complete comfort. Very clean.
Friendly accommodating staff.
The food was great, the atmosphere was homey and not cold like a lot of hotels.
You could borrow videos to watch in your room and the neighbourhood is one of the best in Calgary from a strolling point of view - you're on the bike path network there and in the heart of a great little restaurant and specialty shop area.
