Best Western Airport Inn

(Not to be confused with Best Western Premier Calgary where front desk clerk was rudest, most unfriendly desk clerk ever. Believe his name was Azum)

Lay over enroute to Europe
Upside – very friendly staff. Good comfortable bed. Older hotel, but very comfortable. Thank you Helen and Sarah for all your help and suggestions.
Downside – distance from airport may be too far for some, but OK with us.
Recommend and would overnight there again.

.. you're using a car. We came back from Banff via the Trans Canada HW and only had to return our rented car next morning. Quite handy that the Hotel was actually just situated a street block away from that major road connection. Next day, connection to the airport was pretty easy as you just take the Q.Elisabeth HW nearby and after 1 more turn.. you're entering the "airport loop".

In case you don't have a car, they also provide an airport shuttle that you can call via an airport phone (not tested).

Good points:

- Room was sufficiently spacious to host 2 people with 2 very large bags
- Room was overall very clean and nicely decorated.. Bathroom equipped with usual BW amenities.. and clean too.
- WIFI internet connection is present
- Lobby is a bit disappointing size-wise .. but who cares.. staff was very friendly and efficient with the check-in/check-out.
- Lobby has got 2 computers (and if I remember well, a printer too)
- Spare electricity plugs inside the room
- Didn't hear any noise : Even if the hotel is close to the Trans-Canada HW, it's still located in a quite neighbouring street. Didn't hear any planes either ..

Bonus point:

- Washing machine/dryer combo (and washing powder) available on the floor (2 CAD each)

Negative points:

- No restaurant (but offers (hot) breakfast.. although a bit basic) .. and surrounding area is fairly depressing with only a few places nearby to eat..

Conclusion:

Don't stay at this hotel if you intend to spend a few nights in Calgary.. but if you're back from a trip going to or coming from the airport for 1 night, then you can't be wrong with that hotel.

Very helpful staff, not close to downtown but if you have a car that is fine.

It´s an excellent hotel. Maybe, location is far away from downtown, but it can be solved, renting a car o taking buses.
Clean, polite, good breakfast.
I will stay again and again in this hotel.

We came here with the zoo package offered on visitcalgary.com website...got one night plus 4 passes to zoo plus 2 pairs of penguin slippers and 2 keepsake penguin cups = well worth it!!

The free breakfast was great for the family. Rooms are decent, pool is smallish but no one else used it at all except us so we had it to ourselves. There is no restaurant here but a Subway and Dennys across the street as well as Thai food (that used to be offered in this restaurant). Hint - If you ask at the front desk for a 20% off Dennys coupon, they will give you one!

only real issue was our coffee in our room hadn't been cleaned for who knows how long - old filter in the machine and some mold floating on the old coffee sitting in the carafe :(

Room Tip: Poolside rooms have a window that looks out on pool so you can watch your older kids, but no natural...

Stayed here for one night with 3 kids. We recieved a great zoo package that included cups, slippers, and zoo passes! The pool was average small and simple, the hot tub on the other hand was not great, had no jets. This hotel has no resteraunt but a continental breakfast. The room were decent, but small. Not a great hotel for kids, not much to do.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on a business trip. The location is convenient if you have a car but I wouldn't stay here if I didn't have one. The turn from the street could be missed so be sure to turn at the lobby sign.

Once in the doors there is the elevator in front of you. To the left is the check in counter. The front desk clerk was friendly and checked us in quickly. I asked about a restaurant in the hotel but there isn't one. But with a car, you are within minutes of a many restaurants to chose from.

The elevator is slow and since it's just 3 floors, it's easier to walk up and down the stairs. In the mornings, this is better as the cleaning staff with their carts are also using the elevator.

The room is basic and nothing special. The reason for my 2.5 rating instead of 3 is that I heard my neighbours next door, when they showered, and blowed dry their hair. I did hear planes a few times so this is probably not a good place to stay if you are a light sleeper. The shower head is quite low but you can move it to spray more outward.

There is a pool and hot tub which looked decent. The gym however, is a joke. It's right beside the vending machines with junk food, no decent lighting, and the tv doesn't work. Also, the 'gym' doesn't have its own door so those staying on the first floor walk by it.

The breakfast was decent with a variety of baked goods, eggs, hash brown, sausage/bacon, yogurt, boiled eggs, and make your own waffle. There's free wifi and also 2 computers in the lobby if you don't have a laptop with you.
