“Business Stay”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

BW Calgary Ctre is the best location to get just about anywhere. Pool, breakfast and overall cleanliness are great! the staff were very helpful. I usually stay here several times a year for business, so the location works quite well for the business meetings that I have downtown and in the east end of the city.

This is a typical chain hotel located right next to a very busy (and noisy) road. Checkin was quick and the clerks were friendly which was nice. The public spaces were tired and worn with many stains and marks on the carpet and walls. The room I stayed in was large and clean with a very comfortable bed but there was a lack of attention to detail. I slept well although there was quite a bit of road noise and I woke up a few times throughout the night.

Since I stayed for two nights I also discovered the truly basic housekeeping service. In other hotels cleaning the bathroom means you get an extra towel, shampoo and the counters are wiped and toiletries straightened. Here they replaced one towel and left everything else. Nothing else was touched in the rest of the room except that the bed was made. The ice bucket and glasses were also left so I doubt any vacuuming or anything else for that matter was done.

I tried the breakfast one morning which was standard fare. Some bagels, cereal, sausages and what I like to think of as egg patties - it was ok but nothing special and I skipped it the following day. I also watched one of the staff help themselves and then sit down to eat which seemed out of place.

I didn't get a chance to try the pool but it appeared fine.

Overall, I wasn't that impressed with this property - no one seems to really care and it shows. I've stayed many places and a bit of effort really goes a long way. If I had to choose a hotel in this area again I'd probably return to the holiday inn a block down the road despite the small rooms and odd layout. I had a much better experience there.

This property is ok if you're on a budget and just need a place to crash, just don't expect much else.

We appreciate your feedback. I can assure you that our staff cares very much for our guests and we try to surpass expectations with our customer service. Your experience does not reflect the effort we regularly put into housekeeping and rest assured we will be following up to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and we hope you will come back for a better experience.

We stayed here for a hockey game in October 2013. Very convenient to the Saddledome. Cab ride was about $8 each way. We chose this hotel because all the downtown hotels seemed to be twice the price (yikes!). The hotel faces McLeod Drive in front and has the C-Train track out back. If you're a light sleeper I'm sure this could be a bother, but we didn't really hear much noise at all.

The building has some wear and tear, but we found the rooms to be really clean with pleasant décor. Our room had two comfy queens, a small fridge, microwave, ironing board, and hair dryer. The room had lots of space - enough for both a desk and a table with two extra chairs.

Breakfast was nice: eggs, sausage, pancakes, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, pastries, fruit, coffee, tea, juice. Served from 6:00 to 10:00. We went about 8:30 and had the breakfast room to ourselves.

Pool was very basic, but again, nice and clean. They have a main pool and a small kiddie pool as well as a hot tub. We swam for an hour the morning before we checked out and did not see another soul.

We thought this hotel was a really good value (for a weekday stay near downtown Calgary), and would stay here again, for sure. The location is just outside the downtown core, without the ridiculous weekday prices. We had our own vehicle, and drove downtown for some sightseeing. The time from the hotel to a parking spot just off Centre Street was about 8 minutes flat.

Room Tip: We had a fourth-floor room on the back (east-facing) side of the property. We did not hear any nois...

Rooms were good, breakfast was fairly good, beds were real comfortable, check in and out was quick and friendly. Quite noisy at night but otherwise will likely stay there again. Fairly easy to get to as long as you have a GPS.

Room Tip: Not too bad for the price

Spent the night here while in town for a concert.
This is a typical chain hotel located on MacLeod Trail near the Stampede, Saddledome area.
Check on was quick and the clerk was friendly.
There is a hot breakfast provided with the room and although we do not usually use this service, when we saw real scrambled eggs, sausages and pancakes, we thought why not. Unfortunately as is the case with most of these types of breakfasts, the pancakes were cooled off ( I like em hot so the butter melts into them), and the sausages were extremely salty...got my daily intake right then and there!
The eggs were quite good and the toast was as well (how do you screw up toast when you make it yourself?)
The dispensed orange juice was drinkable but not great and the coffee....well...
There is a hot tub and pool here, but we did not use them so cannot comment.
The traffic on MacLeod Trail seems to never quit and the LRT tracks at the rear of the hotel make room choice a bit tough, but go with the rear of the hotel as the trains are fairly quiet. We chuckled when the warning bells and lights started at the crossing near the hotel, and said we were going to time them to make sure the trains run on schedule, but never did.
There is an LRT station three blocks south of the hotel which made the commute to the Saddledome easy, although we were a bit wary walking back to the hotel after midnight when the concert had ended. Made it with no problems.
This was the first use of the Dome after the devastation of the June floods and it was nice to see the place in such good shape, so quickly Way to go Calgary!!
Convenient location and will use again next time we are in town for a concert.

Room Tip: Try for a room at the rear to avoid traffic noise on MacLeod Trail. you will have bells sounding for...

Friendly staff at desk when we checked in.
Auto club discount of $20
Good continental breakfast.
Fourth floor room room was quiet -- two Queen beds non-smoking room.
Temperature outside was 31 degrees C and thankfully the air conditioning worked very well.
Enjoyed our stay here.

I could not fault the staff nor the room in any way. The room was spacious, clean, well laid out, very silent. This hotel must have a secret about their beds as it has offered me the best possible sleep ever. The complementary WIFI was working great too.
The only disappointment was the breakfast: the layout of the breakfast room was very dated, the breakfast itself holds the price for the most basic I have ever seen in a hotel. On top of that the staff in the breakfast room did not seem to care about cleanliness (unlike the rest of the hotel): a bin more than full was not being emptied, ending up with a pile of empty butter and jam cups all around it. Not the best of sight!
If the Best Western would put in a bit of an effort to improve this part of their business, they would end up receiving glowing reports all over.
