“Great staff, comfortable and quiet, but a few problems”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2012

The staff couldn't have been better. Nice to be greeted by everyone you saw and recognized by name by the front desk clerks. The porter gave me his card so we could ask for him if we needed something, and all the staff seemed to enjoy spoiling my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter.

Comfortable beds, quite rooms, and quite clean. The maids' habit of leaving trays of used coffee cups in the hallways by the elevators for later pickup was a bit tacky, but the renovations seem to mostly have been finished.

One odd thing was that there are two sections to the hotel, a tower and an atrium building, divided by a main road, but connected by a third-story walkway. All checkins take place at the tower buiding.

Each one has it's own pool. The tower building has a waterslide, while the atrium pool has a warm, shallow on and a (too hot!) hot tub. The hotel had a lot of kids staying there for a local volleyball tournament, so we avoided the noisy waterslide pool in favour of the quieter one.

Each also has it's own restaurants, but when we went for breakfast the first morning and discovered the price was $17 per person for a couple of eggs, toast and coffee, we decided to eat out from then on. I wonder how many other people do the same - management might want to find out how many guests actually eat there.

The location is quite far to the south end of the city, but if you like shopping, it's not very far from the popular Chinook Mall.

Room Tip: Tower rooms are quiet.

We reserved several nights to stay here in February 2012. We ended up leaving as the hotel was very dusty....you could actually see the dust on both sides of the hallways and along the chair rails. The leaves on the artificial plant by the elevator looked grey because of the dust. They are doing renovations across the street and explained that this is why it was so dusty. The hotel rooms by the pool that they showed us also smelled very musty....they said it was this way because of the ventilation. Another room on the second floor smelled like someone excrements.
We learned that each Delta is separately owned and one doesn't reflect another. We left and went to the Delta Bow Valley downtown which was clean and had wonderful staff. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Room Tip: Don't go near the pool due to the smell. Also, the smokers hang outside the door nearby and the...

We take all guest feedback to heart and appreciated your time and the opportunity to discuss your experience directly with you prior to the posting of this review. We genuinely hope that the actions we shared as a result of your feedback, along with our willingness to compromise on the solution provided helps to not only re-store your confidence, but also makes up for the inconvenience you experienced that resulted in your choosing of another Delta hotel.

Although we’re pretty excited about our current construction project, we’re saddened at the same time that it partially contributed to your negative experience that day.

We stayed here in February while at a wedding. Normally I would have booked something cheap off of Hotwire, but all of our family were staying here and we wanted to visit. The rooms were very nice (a tid bit small for 3 adults), had lots of amenities, clean, extremely comfortable beds and dead quiet. We stayed on the bottom floor by the parking lot and heard nothing. It is very central for shopping in the south. A 10 min drive to Costco. We picked up my mom from the airport at 10pm and were at the hotel within 15-20 min. We did not use the pool but from the sounds of the children it must be a blast. We paid $135 on Expedia and felt this was pretty good value. Although I hate paying more than $100 for a hotel, this was not a hard pill to swallow.

We booked rooms at the Delta for our wedding party and for the first night of our honeymoon. We had an excellent experience. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We were offered a great (unbeatable) rate and a very nice menu for our reception. Everyone checked in with no issues and received a clean comfortable room. Our nieces loved the pools and we enjoyed the breakfast served in the atrium. The only issue was that some of the hotel was under construction while we were there and so at times, that was a bit loud/cumbersome.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the atrium side.

Nice hotel. Front staff were great. I stayed here on a business trip but it was way too far south. It is far from downtown and there are better places to stay for less in downtown.

The hotel has a very odd lay out and you need to make sure you are in the section of the hotel you want.

Room Tip: Be clear on the size of room you want and if you want it in the tower or not.

Normally I don't like staying in "full service" hotels, which seem to charge for eveything. So I was a bit apprehensive to book a stay in this hotel, which was mandated by our management (since our supplier had a discounted rate there). However in the end my stay turned out to be better than I expected.

We stayed in the Tower room. My wife joined me a few days into the trip, so I was hoping that this stay would live up to her (somewhat higher) expectations - it mostly did. The room was clean, the bed pretty comfortable. The pillows were typical hotel fare - synthetic, soft to the touch but hard to sleep on. In the rooms there is a mini-fridge (fortnately empty of mini-bar goodies), useful to store the leftovers of last night's dinner, but no microwave. There is a coffeemaker, with coffe and tea condiments, though to make tea without coffee flavor, you will need to resort to some trickery, such as removing filter-holder and the pot lid. In the morning the hotel has a free coffee cart in the lobby, with very good, Starbucks-quality coffee.

The TV channel selecton was fairly good, though as in a typical "full service" hotel, every time you turn on the TV, you are presented with the Pay-Per-View ads, before getting to a viewable channel.

The parking spaces seem a bit undersized, but the parking is free, and right in front of the building. The hotel staff are all very friendly, from the housekeeping to front desk. Although they charge extra for a room upgrade, which includes a turn-down service and bottled water, as well as a higher-floor room with a better vew, the rooms are essentially the same as the ones below, and if you ask, the front desk staff will give you bottles of water for free.

Overall, it was a pleasant, uneventful stay.

Not as nice as your typical Delta hotel, but nothing terribly wrong with it either. A bit of an odd layout, with half the hotel on one side of a street, and the other half located on another piece of property. Each section has their own lobby, but they will check you in at either. You may then have to drive, or take the pedway over, if you're not in the same building as your designated room.

I was located in the atrium part of the hotel, which is only 3 stories tall. It is a large square building, and only has a couple of elevators, so you may find yourself walking across the main floor, and then walking down a long corridor to your room on that floor.

Otherwise, staff I dealt with were friendly, professional, and thorough. The room was fine: decent lighting, desk and chair, lots of room including a sofa, sitting chair, and coffee table (this was a king room). The bathroom function was fine, but it could use a reno soon. Room was very clean, however.

Parking is free, but is outdoors. There are restaurants and bars located on site, but there are plenty of other choices nearby, as well.

Price was reasonable for Calgary, especially considering that everything else in the city was sold out. I paid around $175 (+ tax), when the Hyatt wanted almost $600 (for a standard room).

Room Tip: Some rooms have balconies that overlook the atrium pool and restaurant area. This could be a pro or...
