Owner description: When you have the choice of everything from a thundering steam train to antique midway rides to beautifully preserved heritage buildings and homesteads, deciding what to do first isn't easy. Located in Calgary, Alberta, Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum, with hundreds of exhibits, rides, shops, restaurants and daily demonstrations and activities to keep the young and the young-at-heart captivated in the past. No two days at the Park are the same, so come back as often as you like for a history lesson you won't find in any textbook.

from 9 months to 60 years + everyone enjoyed themselves. Easy to get to and so clean and interesting. Historical facts and the train ride was a highlight.

“This is a "must visit" in Calgary”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

The Heritage Park Historical Village is something that should not be missed in Calgary. The all inclusive cost is around $20 per person (less for seniors and children and, if you look, there are coupons in visitors guide that are two for one admission). The Village is about 20 minutes from downtown Calgary. Parking is free. Plan to spend a full day at the park as there is so much to see and do. Start with a ride on the railroad that circles the village - pulled by a restored steam engine. Enjoy a relaxing boat ride on a paddlewheel boat The Moyie. There are many restored historic buildings, both residential and commercial to explore. Docents at each building answer questions and provide information about the structure. Commercial buildings include a dental office, High River Law Office, pharmacy, Wing Chinese Laundry, and bank. There is a working Flett's Blacksmith Shop, Strathmore and Bow Valley Standard Newspaper Office, Baron's Snooker (billiard) Parlor and many, many more. Everything is from the past of Western Canada and its settlement and development. The railroad was an integral part of the history of Alberta Province and there is an area devoted to its importance. This includes beautifully restored railroad cars, a roundhouse, railway turntable and many other artifacts Staff is in period costumes and very helpful and informative. There are many hands on activities for the young ones as well as a playground and antique midway with rides. Numerous places to get a snack or have a complete meal - and the prices appeared reasonable. Near the entrance to the park is Gasoline Alley. This museum contains an extensive collection of antique vehicles and related artifacts such as old gas pumps and signage - all restored to like new condition. Although there are shops where gifts can be purchased the overall experience is not "touristy" and commercialized. In summary - this is a place that should not be missed - it will be enjoyed by all ages and the cost is VERY reasonable as it will provide a full days entertainment (and you still will probably to see everything.

“Great Family Day”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

Heritage Park is a wonderful venue for anyone but especially for families. There are so many things to do, ride the train, play games, shop and many other activities. You can eat there or bring a picnic and eat in the picnic areas. The shopping is fun and all the staff are in period costume and are very well informed. The gasoline alley is amazing with a huge collection of period gas pumps and vehicles. Do yourself a favour and go.

“Cool Little Village”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

This must be the tenth time I have been to this Park in my lifetime and I have never been more impressed. The very first thing I noticed is that you no longer need to buy tickets for the rides as it is now included in the entry free. Another thing was the amount of staff in the park. There was a staff member in almost every building eager to answer any questions you may have. The park is open 7 hours a day and you will need that amount of time if you want to see every building. A wonderful historic village showing life in Alberta 100 to 130 years ago. There are buildings from all over Alberta here in the park. Take a ride on the train and don't forget to stop at the ice cream shop! Such a wonderful little village.

“Worth the Visit”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

We were reluctant to spend the money and time thinking it would be very touristy, but actually ended up enjoying our day at the Heritage Park. They've preserved some amazing old homes and buildings, plus there's a great antique car museum, and your admission includes a cruise in an old paddlewheeler on the reservoir. You feel like you're walking back into time.
