Owner description: When you have the choice of everything from a thundering steam train to antique midway rides to beautifully preserved heritage buildings and homesteads, deciding what to do first isn't easy. Located in Calgary, Alberta, Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum, with hundreds of exhibits, rides, shops, restaurants and daily demonstrations and activities to keep the young and the young-at-heart captivated in the past. No two days at the Park are the same, so come back as often as you like for a history lesson you won't find in any textbook.

“How things used to be!”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

Visited on a Monday, so park was pleasant and not overcrowded. Can get off to a great start by using the tram to reach the entrance from the car park. Lots of informative exhibits, with all staff offering useful advice/stories. They all seem to enjoy working there! Particularly liked the steam 'switcher' locomotive with its impressive chime whistle, but shame it's restricted to a circular route. Good to see a paddle steamer at work on the lake.
Many places to eat, but some closed when we visited and menus seemed limited. Best cafe is located at the tram station before the entrance.
Car museum is great, with the collection of old petrol pumps being especially impressive.

“spend a full day exploring the past”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

Enjoyed a day leisurely exploring the village. Cash grab to go on the train or paddleboat, should be included in the $20+ admission price.

“Great day out”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

Excellent facility - lots to see and do and gives a real flavour of what Calgary was like 100 years ago. The park staff made the experience even better as they were so friendly and helpful.

“Eat at the Club Cafe”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

A small restaurant from the early 20th century is located "downtown" across from the livery stable. Stools at the counter; private booths with curtains for privacy. Really cool.
The food is basic, limited menu. But good, and fairly priced. The breakfast sandwich was $6 - Lettuce, tomato, cheese and a real whole egg [not the processed liquid egg served by modern restaurants] on a fresh bun.
Our server was very good and I noticed the others also doing well.
Give it a try when you take a break from seeing the rest of the park.
