Owner description: From the splendor of the Rocky Mountains to the heart of Destination Africa, The Calgary Zoo takes you to see almost 900 animals from around the world. Trek through the gorilla’s rainforest, safari over the Savannah to watch the hippos swim, or climb the Canadian Wilds to see a grizzly bear. Cool off and get beak to nose with 4 species of penguins in our popular Penguin Plunge or visit endangered red pandas and amur tigers in Eurasia! Wind down your trip with a walk through our fragrant Dorothy Harvie Gardens or sit with the butterflies in ENMAX Conservatory. You'll love knowing that every visit helps protect endangered animals at home and in the wild. NEW in 2017 is the unique and immersive permanent Land of Lemurs exhibit. Coming in 2018 are the iconic giant pandas!

Last year, the Calgary Zoo was ravaged by floods that destroyed many of the habitats and killed many of the animals. There has been a lot of work done restoring the habitats and the animals are starting to return. The Trip Advisor description is that there are over 1000 animals in this zoo and I would estimate half that total. The penguin exhibit is nice with several species of penguins sharing the space and the aviary is nice to walk through and see several species of owls. The big cats and bears were nicely visible and the butterfly conservatory was nice. Many of the exhibits were empty. I would return next year to see how it is improved. It was nice but is in need of improvement with more animals. I feel confident that it will be back to its pre-flood glory.

I took my 2 grandchildren to visit the Komodo Dragon- to running to catch butterflies, ride the merri-go-round, chased the peacock, this was an amazing day for the kids !they also had a lot of indoor exhibits so even if it rains, they kids will be dry & still have lots to see & talk about!
The Calgary zoo have done their best after the flood, its nice to see the public support this cause!

This is still one of the best zoos in North America. The Canadian Wild is a unique area of the park showcasing our amazing wildlife, in their natural habitat. The gardens alone are well worth a visit. The new penguin exhibit is very special, with many varieties of penguins.
A hint for first timers to the zoo - by pass the long line to purchase admission tickets and go inside the LRT station to purchase tickets at the self serve kiosk or further along to an additional customer service area.

The zoo is back up to full capacity. We didn't spend enough time at the zoo. You have to plan a full day

Considering the huge flood disaster that struck this facility in the spring, we were pleasantly surprised on the condition of this facility and all it had to offer

Fantastic array of wildlife from birthing butterflies to massive hippo performing underwater backflips, to grazing giraffes, grizzlies and more.
Perfect family attraction in the heart of Calgary.
