Nose Hill Park is a very large natural area in Calgary, nothing like the typical urban "park" with play equipment and paved paths. We visited twice during our short visit to Calgary. On both occasions we were rewarded with views of the downtown from the high points, and in other places, felt like we were bush whacking through wild sloughs and plains, far away from civilization. We had fairly good birding, and saw feeding deer from a distance.

The trails are all very well groomed gravel, but more mapping and directions would have been helpful. Our group of 4 became separated into 2 groups, and never found each other until we finally met at the car. Despite the openness of the field area, the subtle undulations can quickly, and surprisingly hide fellow walkers. If one plans on separating, a cell phone would be nice. Perhaps due to the recent flooding, the mosquitoes were quite pesky, and repellent would have been in order.

Nose Hill Park is one of Calgary's best kept secrets. This extremely large park which comprises a hill overlooking the city, lots of valleys, and hosts native grasses and plants, is a great place to go for an extended walk or hike. You have the choice of paved or gravel paths. The views of the city and the mountains are spectacular. Expect lots of dogs as people do love to walk their dogs there. It's also a good place to go biking.

Love going to the park, great place to bike ride and go for a nice long walk. It's free, easy access with lots of parking. Busy on the weekends.

Nose Hill is awesome. It is a huge green space full of owners and their dogs running free. While the canine interaction can be chaotic at times, it's a freedom place to feel like you are WAY out of town without ever having to leave it. I take my kids there, without pets and just wonder the trails for hours exploring hideouts and secret paths. It's not heavy on amenities, but it's a large piece of nature in the middle of man's expansion. If you have a dog, it's a MUST.
