“A very enjoyable stay”

We stayed at the Bow Valley 23-24 of July. I had called and spoken with a representative about room avalilability and parking before our arrival. She was very helpful and informative. On arrival, all the staff were very friendly and attentive, and our room was very nice, complete with a note of welcome. Delta has a program which encourages guests to ask employees about local events, sights to visit, etc, and this was very useful, as there were two music festivales on at the time of our visit. We enjoyed the hotel Sunday breakfast buffet, and spent the day walking around Calgary listening to various kinds of music .

Room Tip: Upper floors give a nice view of the river.

Like other Deltas, this one is pleasant, though there are some negatives.

THE GOOD:
- mid-priced, on the whole nice hotel
- attractive large room with desk; good closet and dresser
- swimming pool (but see below) and ok exercise room
- just off centre, but still pretty close to everything, and walking distance to LRT. shops, restaurants, theatre
-close to Chinatown
-good lobby bar- excellent snacks and drinks
-fairly close to walking trails along Bow River (but not as close as hotel info might lead you to believe)
-free use of computers and printers in business centre

THE NOT-SO GOOD
-not the greatest neighbourhood; may be safe (?) but pretty empty at night and esp if you're a single female you may feel uncomfortable
-couldn't find a convenience store in the vicinity and didn't feel comfortable looking for one at night
-broken drink machines and no tuck shop in sight (nothing in the hotel)
-no mini bar in the room
-swimming pool with wobbly handrail (could be dangerous)
-front desk staff seemed clueless about hotel services
-ho-hum breakfast buffet (not included)
-housekeeping was iffy

On the whole, I'd recommend it to anyone not wanting to stay in the middle of downtown and not wanting to pay an arm and a leg for a hotel room. Otherwise you might prefer the Hyatt (more central and nicer, but more pricey)

Thank you very much for your recent comments regarding your stay at the Delta Bow Valley in August. I appreciate your honest feedback as you have identified both positive aspects and opportunities for the hotel.

I was pleased to see that overall you would recommend our hotel and found the location to provide close proximity to the LRT, Shops, Dining and Theatre.

I do wish to apologize for the deficiencies that you encountered during your visit, and appreciate you r feedback which allows us to take corrective action.

We arrived at the hotel from an 8 hour flight from London, UK. The registration desk staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. The beds were extremely comfortable and the room seemed to be well up to international business standards. Breakfast was surprisingly expensive and not all that good. I'd been looking forward to pancakes with Maple syrup but these were stodgy and pretty tasteless.

The outstanding feature of the hotel has to be the Concierge, Warren. If Delta had an employee of the month award, he'd be my nomination for his helpfulness and the time he was prepared to spend on providing information and advice.

My husband I and I just returned from our stay at this hotel and over all we were impressed.

Check in was fast and efficient and the staff member I dealt with was extremely professional and helpful. We met Jason while touring the hotel and checking out the pool. He was very nice and explained the maintenance which was taking place around the pool deck. When we returned to the pool later in the evening we found that it was very cold and the pool deck was very dirty (our only complaints). In general, the staff members were very friendly and genuinely concerned that we were enjoying our stay. Customer service at this hotel was wonderful.

Now for the best part, the bed was so comfy!! It was like sleeping on a cloud and I wanted to take it home.

Would we stay there again? In a word.... YES!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper floors, the views are spectacular!

Better/clearer information at check-in would have been appreciated.
- No bathtub in room.
- 1 Chair with a small table that was not functional to eat at for two people.
- Internet was pricey given the connection speed available. Should not cost almost as much to surf the internet as it is to park a car in downtown Calgary. Wireless was available but can only connect "one" device at a time for access... paying for a double room so needed to connect 2 wifi phones and 2 laptops. Are you supposed to toggle back and forth between devices and people for access? 21st century people... everything is connected and internet shouldn't run you almost as much as parking your car.
- Power bars connected to outlets were a bit dodgy and caused my xbox to crash a number of times before I figured out what was wrong.
- Also, the room seemed to get quite warm in the evening despite the AC being set low. (5+ degrees off actually)
- An explanation as to the location of the ice machines and the staggered vending machine locations with respect to drinks and snacks would have been helpful to be posted in the room someplace. (or if it was in the rooms we were unable to locate it)
- Microwave in room would be nice.

On the positives:
- The maid service was fabulous and they did a fantastic job of looking after the room.
- The parking attendant was friendly and extremely personable.
- The buffet lunch that we had was well prepared, flavorful and nicely laid out. An offer for drinks when we were first seated instead of at the end of our meal would have been appreciated though.
- The rooms were quiet.
- Location downtown was very convenient.
- Decor was nice.

Room Tip: Don't make assumptions on what is in the room. Be specific and ask like "is there a bathtu...

Thank you for your post in conjunction with your recent visit to Calgary and Delta Bow Valley.

I was concerned to learn of some of the difficulties you encountered with internet and hotel information that would have provided a more enjoyable experience. While we have recently installed wireless internet and working out some of the installation bugs this is no excuse for the troubles you encountered so I do apologize and wish to assure you we enhancing the system along with the speed of the service. Our guest room directories do advise on location of vending and ice machines throughout the hotel, for future reference. We do have limited number of Microwaves available, on request so again I apologize this information was not readily available to you.

On the positive side I wish to thank you for your comments directed to our housekeeping, parking and food and beverage staff which I have passed along. All were delighted to learn that they had served you well.

We stayed at this hotel for just one night but the hotel exceeded our expectations. The room was clean andtidy, the bed extremely comfortable with quality linen, although the bathroom ws a bit 'tired'. The staff on the reception were very helpful and provided a quality service. On the morning before our departure we went to breakfast and were given a table and told to help ourselves. We had a buffet breakfast that was very nice but when we went to leave the waitress asked to pay $40 for our food, having booked B & B we were surprised and when we pointed this out we were told that we'd paid for a continental breakfast. I politely explained to the waitress that she had told us to help ourselves and she said "we should have known". Not the most helpful comment. I went to the reception and advised them that I wouldnot be paying for my breakfast, the duty manager was very apologetic and told us there would be no charge. Having left the hotel and driven down to Waterton I realised that I had left some luggage in the hotel room, we called them and when we returned to Calgary 15 days later the hotel kindly returned my missing luggage. I was somewhat surprised as my previous experiences in hotels in the UK usually end up with no trace of my property when I've accidentally left things behind. I would stay at this hotel again and hope for the same view of the Calgary Tower

From the moment we arrived to leaving the staff were helpful and friendly ,the room was clean with a King sized bed. We over looked the park at the back of the Hotel,
The breakfast had a good choice and was fresh.It was stampede week whilst we
were there and the staff all got into the spirit of it.
OK now for the downside, we were on the tenth floor but could still hear the traffic even with all the windows closed, Fire station is under the hotel.
Thats it, even so we would stay here again.
