This is a world class facility that Calgary is very proud of. Skaters come from all over the world to train.

The Olympic Oval houses the olympic sized skating rink for speed skaters and sometimes public use. Most of the time the gyms beside this rink are used for convocations and graduations. It's a rink. Nothing spectacular. I liked the enormous sculpture (called the Paper Clip), an enormous red paperclip.

A great place to skate all year round. Weather you have your own skates or want to rent it's all available. They have public skate times often. Otherwise, stopping by to watch the Olympic athletes and Olympic hopefuls train can be interesting. If you'd like to try speed skating they do have speed skates you can rent (which aren't as hard to use as you might think). They do rent and allow other kinds of skates as well.

Watching international speed skating teams or local hockey is fun and the venue is free, except during some private events. It is a legacy piece from the Calgary Winter Olympics and is still a strong building. Great place to rent a good pair of skates and try to speed. Almost impossible to skate on most rented skates. They should sharpen them all the time and have some newer ones (even at higher prices) to rent.

While we were there we saw the 2010 Korea team working on their game for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Evidently the practice is great because Calgary is so high up in the mountains that when they hit Vancouver at sea level their times had increased!

such a nice oval, too bad it doesn't have more seats for more people to watch the events in comfort. It is nice to have on the campus adjacent to the physed building. Lots of parking nearby and central to the city.
