Owner description: Every July, millions of people come to Calgary's Stampede Park to take part in one of the world's largest rodeos and other popular activities such as chuckwagon racing and agricultural shows. The event's origins date back to 1912, when American Guy Weadick, a successful trick roper, got support to host an event called "Stampede" to celebrate the "disappearing" Old West. Since then, the event has grown drastically and has evolved into a celebration of the Old West, while reflecting the modern, multicultural aspects of the city.

“Great family entertainment!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

The Calgary Stampede is like a country fair (animals, exhibits, culture), a major music festival (many free stages with top acts) and a world-class sporting event (rodeo and chuckwagon races) all wrapped into one gigantic package. With a little research and planning (there are lots of online tools), you can stretch the gate admission into a full day of free fun and entertainment. There are even ways for younger children to get into the gate for free and eat for next to nothing (and actually eat breakfast for free on a couple of days).

“expensive day out”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2013

Kudo to the Stampede for a job well done (in cleaning up after the flood). We stood on Scotsman Hill and overlooked the massive amounts of water that had fllooded the park before the Stampede. In fact the grounds/grassy areas were still quite waterlogged during Stampede. Going to Stampede can get quite expensive and there has been a decline in displays since we had started going over 25 years ago. It is good for first time visitors especially the chuckwagon races and the rodeo which attract some pretty big talent. Over the years, I have known a few chuck drivers and they LOVE their horses. They would not do anything to harm the horses.I went to a ranch to ride inside a wagon --- what a rush. The horses love to run and the minute you start to hook them up they want to go. At the Stampede take the time to talk to drivers-- they love people and love to talk. Cheaper food can be found at Weaddickville, but everywhere else it can get pretty expensive. To get a beer will make you want to quit drinking. On the free days be well advised to expect to dodge people and get pushed around. i am not a small guy and still had people try to move me.

“Yahoo! Yeehaw! This is a real western experience in a city that celebrates its origins in style.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2013

Stampede is an experience that is all encompassing throughout the city from the beginning with a Parade, stampede breakfasts of flapjacks and sausages, barbeques with beef in an bun and beans, square dancing and line-dancing in the streets. There is always something going on in different parts of the city as well as on the Stampede grounds in the center of the city. Midway rides, culinary delights, art displays, Rodeo, chuckwagon races and a world class stage show with fireworks to follow complete the day at the grounds. So don your cowboy duds with hat, boots, jeans and a western shirt, bolo tie and vest and come on down to the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth - The Calgary Stampede!!

“It is Highway robbery!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2013

Everything you buy like gifts, food and drinks are WAY OVERLY PRICED!!! You need to bring a suitcase full of stacks of money just to have a meal, a drink and a couple snacks. I mean if you were going to blow money on something like the stampede take your family to Disneyworld or Disneyland.

“101 - a Great annual event”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

Attended the 101st Stampede and as always it was a great event. Went to the Chuckwagon races with the evening performance / fireworks -- well worth the price. There is always great food - and a lot you should only eat once a year at the fair. Overall excellent event and a must to see.
